USAC Champions Lead PowerCom Entry List
Beaver Dam, Wis.---Six drivers, with 13 career USAC driving Championships head
the list of pre-entries for the upcoming April 24 USAC Valvoline National
Sprint Car Series, and USAC National Midget Series event at the Raceway at
PowerCom Park. Gates will open at 2:00pm, with qualifying at 2:30pm, and the
first race at 4:00pm.
USAC Triple Crown winner Dave Darland leads the list of entries for the event.
Darland has captured the four USAC National Championships: Weld Racing Silver
crown (1997), National Sprint Car (1999), and National Midget (2000, '01).
Darland will make his debut driving for Lynn Reid team in the Sprint Car
portion, while he will pilot the familiar Steve Lewis Racing entry in the
midget race. Darland finished third in the most recent USAC event at the track
on April 11, 1998, finishing third behind winner Tony Elliott, and Kevin Doty.
Elliott, and Brian Tyler both own two USAC Valvoline National Sprint Car
titles. Elliott winning the championship in 1998, and 2000. Tyler captured
back-to-back title in 1996-97. It was Elliott's win in the April 11th event at
PowerCom Park that encouraged him to make a run at his first USAC
National title.
Other USAC driving champions entered include: Jay Drake (1990, '91 TQ Midget,
'96 Western Midget), Bud Kaeding (1999 Western Sprint Car), and Josh Wise
(1999 TQ Midget). Drake and Wise are teammates in the Tony Stewart Team Mopar
stable, in different divisions. Drake drives for Stewart's Sprint Car team,
and for Dino Tomassi in the midget division. Wise recently hired will make his
third start for Stewart's lone midget entry, and will drive Keith Kunz's
second Sprint Car entry.
