Powercom Park Opener Looking To Fill Void For Hales Corners Fans

BEAVER DAM, WI – Wisconsin Motorsports, Inc., announced today that the Karavan Trailer Sales Icebreaker at The Raceway at Powercom Park on Saturday night, May 1st will also be a salute to the fans of the now shuttered Hales Corners Speedway as a special free admission policy will be in effect for that group that night.

To receive this special admission package the party must produce something that was tied directly to the now-closed Hales Corners Speedway in Franklin.  The item must be something officially produced by the track – such as a T-shirt, hat, souvenir program, or even an old ticket stub – and be presented at the ticket booth May 1st. One free grandstand admission will be granted to any adult that produces the memorabilia.

The item that is presented can be used for grandstand admission only and can be used by only one party at the track that night.

Adding to that, the track will offer two-for-one specials at the remaining regular racing programs at Powercom Park during the month – May 8th, May 15th, and May 29th – based on the same process.  Any person producing official Hales Corners Speedway items will get one free grandstand ticket with the purchase of one ticket.

“We discussed the fact that there is now a void in Southeastern Wisconsin for dirt track racing,” said Wisconsin Motorsports’ General Manager Rex Melius.  “With the Hales Corners Speedway closing after last season the people in the greater Milwaukee area have been left without a dirt track.  We feel that Powercom Park is the natural alternative for those folks when it comes to dirt track racing.

“With the interest and phone calls that we have received so far there will be a good number of drivers that raced at Hales coming to run at Powercom Park.  It’s only natural that we try to bring in the people that are used to seeing those drivers and those cars.”

The Raceway at Powercom Park will kick off its 2004 season with a USAC Sprint Car – Midget doubleheader on Saturday, April 24th before going into its weekly format on Saturday night, May 1st.  Regular programs will continue throughout the month with the exception of May 22nd and 23rd when the United States Modified Touring Series hits the track.

Oshkosh’s Powercom Speed Zone will open on Tuesday night, May 4th and continue through the month with its regular program.  The Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association will hit the track on May 18th and feature many of the top drivers that competed at Hales Corners during its final years in the track’s top division.

Both tracks feature Modified racing in the regular program plus Street Stocks, Grand National Stock cars, and the always-exciting Dirt Devils.  The INEX legend cars will also make several appearances at both tracks.

“You hate to lose any track to development but it happens,” Melius went on to say.  “We’re here and ready to take up the slack.  I think the fans will enjoy both of our tracks and what we have to offer.  And, what better way to entice them but to offer a special ticket for a season-opening event and then to keep it going through the month with other discounts.”

The Raceway at Powercom Park is located just off of Highway 151 on Highway 33 in Beaver Dam.  The Speed Zone is on newly named Highway 76 north of Oshkosh.  For more information contact Wisconsin Motorsports at (920) 887-1600.
