Powercom Park, Speed Zone Registration In High Gear
February 26, 2004

BEAVER DAM, WI – Number registration for all teams planning on competing at The Raceway at Powercom Park and the Powercom Speed Zone is currently underway with all indications that car counts will meet or exceed those of 2003.

“We have had a great response from the drivers on getting their information into us,” said Rex Melius of Wisconsin Motorsports, Inc.  “We are doing everything possible to accommodate them with car numbers.  Our goal is to avoid duplicate numbers, which will simplify everything.

“Drivers need to keep this in mind.  If they get their information into us early, like many already have, chances are they will be rewarded with their pick for a car number.  Plus then they don’t have any extra paperwork to worry about when we open the gates for the first time in May.”

Both tracks enjoyed banner 2003 seasons as far as car count goes.  The Raceway at Powercom Park averaged over 100 vehicles in the pit area every Saturday night while the Speed Zone in Oshkosh pushed that figure but fell just short.

“With the response to date I expect about 100 cars at each track for the regular shows, maybe more.  Fans like to see a lot of cars and a lot races and I think we will have that for them in 2004.”

Drivers are encouraged to take part in the practice sessions planned for the two tracks.  Powercom Park will host a single event – set for April 17th – while the Powercom Speed Zone will see open track time on both April 18th and April 25th.  Gates will open at 10:00 am for inspection on those days with four hours of practice to commence at noon.

“It’s important to our entire program to have drivers that plan to race with us on a regular basis get to the practice because of the inspection part of it,” Melius said.  “There is nothing worse than sitting in a long line on opening night and waiting to be inspected.  Even if they don’t plan on going on the track to practice we encourage drivers to get their cars here to have everything checked.”

Following a USAC National Sprint Car-Midget doubleheader on Saturday, April 24th, The Raceway at Powercom Park will open its 2004 regular season with the Karavan Trailers Icebreaker on Saturday night, May 1st.  The Speed Zone’s version of the Karavan Trailers Icebreaker will then follow on Tuesday night, May 4th.  Race time at each track is 7:00 pm.

The Raceway at Powercom Park is located just off of Highway 151 on Highway 33 in Beaver Dam while the Speed Zone is south of Highway 41 on Highway 76 at the Sunnyview Expo Grounds.
