Wisconsin Motorsports Releases Powercom Park, Powercom Speed Zone Schedules

January 9, 2004

BEAVER DAM, WI – Wisconsin Motorsports, Inc., has released an ambitious 50-event schedule between The Raceway at Powercom Park and the Powercom Speed Zone for 2004.

“What we have done over the past three months is try and put together a schedule that includes a little bit of everything at both tracks,” said Wisconsin Motorsports General Manager Rex Melius.  “There are so many different forms of motorsports that it’s impossible to get everything in but I think we have done a pretty good job with what we have.

“Our emphasis will continue to be the regular weekly racing program at both tracks.  Those programs are really the backbone of what we are trying to accomplish between both tracks.  I can’t emphasize that enough.  Our regular fans and drivers really make Wisconsin Motorsports and they give us the opportunity to put on the other special events.”

The Raceway at Powercom Park will see the return of the O’Reilly World of Outlaws in 2004 with a pair of shows booked for the high banked 1/3-mile oval.  The best sprint car drivers in the world will attack the track on Saturday night June, 12th, and then again on September 25th.

“We are fortunate to have the World of Outlaws and even more fortunate this year to have both events on Saturday night,” Melius said of what has become the largest draw at Powercom Park as far as fans go.  “It is a compliment to the staff here that we are able to host a pair of races.”

Other open wheel shows include the United States Auto Club sprint car/midget doubleheader on Sunday, April 25th, a pair of Interstate Racing Association events, and two Midwest Sprint Car Association races.  The Badger Midget Auto Racing Association will compete in the popular Triple Crown with the IRA sprint cars and mini sprints on August 28th.

The newly formed Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association, based out of Milwaukee and trying to pick up the void by the closing of the Hales Corners Speedway in Franklin, will take part in the Memorial Day Special along with the IRA sprints cars and then return on July 17th as well as August 14th.  The United States Modified Touring Series will hit the track on May 22nd and 23rd.

A special Night of Stars has been inked for Tuesday, June 22nd, as Powercom Park will play host to several to-be-announced NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series drivers.  The show will be highlighted with a special for the modified division.

Much of the same will take place at the Powercom Speed Zone in Oshkosh as the IRA sprint cars, MSA sprint cars, and Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association will all be making stops at the 1/3-mile track located at the Sunnyview Expo Center in Oshkosh.

The Monster Truck Nationals will return to the Speed Zone July 23-25.  A true favorite in the Fox Valley, the three day event will feature some of the top trucks from throughout the country competing in front of the grandstand.  Several added and new attractions are planned for this years show.

“The mix seems to be just right between the special events and the regular programs,” Melius went on to say.  “It’s tough to keep everyone happy.  The fact is you need to have variety to attract new customers yet keep the current customers coming back.  I think this type of schedule will do that for both tracks.”

Both facilities will host open practice sessions the last two weekends in April.  Powercom Park will be open on April 17th and 24th from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm while the Speed Zone will have the same hours on April 18th and 25th.  The regular season opener at Powercom Park is set for Saturday night, May 1st while the Speed Zone kicks off its campaign on Tuesday night, May 4th.  Race time at both tracks is 7:00 pm.

Powercom Park is located just off of Highway 151 and Highway 33 in Beaver Dam while Powercom Speed Zone is just south of Highway 41 on Highway 76 in Oshkosh.  For more information contact Wisconsin Motorsports at (920) 887-1600 or www.wismotorsports.net
