Wood To Make ASL Debut At WIR Tuesday Night Shootout

KAUKAUNA, WI -- Chad Wood, one of Southern Wisconsin's top stock car drivers, is scheduled to make his debut in the American StockCar League at the Tuesday Night Shootout at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Tuesday night, Aug. 2.  Qualifying is slated for 4 p.m. with racing to begin at 7:15 p.m.    An autograph line is planned from 5 to 6 p.m.

A 150-lap ASL feature race will top the evening's events.

Wood has finished as high as second in the late model points at Madison International Speedway.  He was in Ted Musgrave's NASCAR car preparation crew during 1998 in Mooresville, NC before returning to Wisconsin the following year.

He has raced sporadically on the ASA National Tour.  His best season was 2003 when he was 11th overall in the point standings with a second place finish at Jennerstown, PA his best finish ever.

"We quit racing the ASA National Tour in 2004 when financial problems occurred with the tour," Wood noted.   The ASL was formed in February as a replacement series for teams with the equipment for the ASA tour.  The Wood Racing Team has five ASL cars and the recent switch from Goodyear radials to Hoosier bias ply tires has got the team interested in competing.

Wood is also running the ASA Late Model division this year and is one of the front runners in that traveling series.

A number of other drivers are expected to make their series debut Tuesday, Aug. 2 at WIR including Rich Loch of Franklin, WI, Matthias Czabok of Ashland, OH, Tim Schmitt of Muskego, WI, Brent Kirschner of LaCrecent, MN, Jeff Way of Burlington, WI, and Cale Wiltse of Pinconning, MI.

The Aug. 2 program will also include the B & B Racing Engines 44-lap Late Model Shootout for the Wally Jors Memorial Cup and the Royal Rumble 30-lap feature pitting the top Mid-American Stock Cars against the leading Mid-Am Super Truck drivers.

The D-shaped half-mile raceway is located at the corner of Highway 55 and County Trunk KK, three miles south of Kaukauna.  Advance ticket information is available by calling 920-823-2856.
