Saunders Ready For 2007 Season In ASA LM North Series
By: Jessie DeMars/JWS Racing
4/20/07 – Sun Prairie, WI – Jesse Saunders and the JWS race team are
geared up and ready for the 2007 season to begin. Saunders, who spent the last
two seasons racing in the ASA Late Model division at the Madison International
Speedway, is tentatively scheduled to run the entire ASA Late Model North
Series beginning with the season opener at O’Reilly Raceway Park in
Indianapolis.
After a dismal season last year that included an accident that took him out of
contention for the ASA LM championship with four races to go, Saunders is
ready to forget last year & look ahead to 2007. “Last year we had
absolutely no luck,” explained Saunders. “We lost our primary sponsor to
run the North Series just before the first race. Then we were in a wreck while
running 3rd in points at MIS that forced us to miss the rest of the season.”
Saunders, 21, will be gunning for the 2007 ASA LM North Series championship
along with the Rookie of the Year title; however this year won’t be without
its challenges. Saunders has only raced at four of the ten tracks on the
schedule but remains confident that with the resources available to him, he
will be able to adapt quickly to the new tracks.
“We built a new car during the off season and I think we have some good
equipment to make us contenders,” said Saunders. “I’m excited to get
back to driving the car and happy to have my crew back from last
year.”
Saunders & his team plan to run all the ASA LM North Series races and a
couple of the ASA LM Challenge Series events but a tight budget also means
running on a race by race basis. “I would love to be able to look farther
down the schedule, test and prepare a little bit more, but I’m concentrating
on ORP and what we have to do to come out of the box strong. We have to run
good there to go anywhere else.”
This year marks Jesse Saunders 12th year in competition. He began racing in
1995 & spent six years in the go-kart ranks before taking a pit
crew/mechanic position in 2001 to learn more about full-bodied stock cars and
prepare to drive them. Saunders made his late model debut in April of 2002 at
the Jefferson Speedway & at 16 years old became the youngest driver to
score a feature win at the track. He then spent the next four years racing
super late models then ASA late models at the Madison International Speedway.
Along with his on-track experience, Saunders has been employed at Pathfinder
Chassis for the last five years with the position of shop foreman for the last
year and a half.
