ASALMS Northern Division Opener At O’Reilly Raceway Park Is Fast Approaching
By ASA Late Model Series
Lexington, Michigan (04/02/2007): The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM
Performance Parts 2007 season has began in both the ASALMS Challenge and
Southern Division and in just a month from now, the ASALMS Northern Division
will open the doors on their 2007 Racing Season.
The great fans of the ASALMS will see the Northern Division Teams traveling
throughout the Midwest Region of the United States with an emphasis on closing
the overall radius of travel for 2007! The travel has been cut down
dramatically as the North teams will travel as far West as Missouri, to as far
North and East as Michigan and as far South as Tennessee. The Tennessee date
is not until the end of the season.
The ASALMS Northern Division will begin their second season at one of the most
famous and historic tracks in the Midwest in late April. This race in the past
has been held in Mid-July and has been one of the tracks where every team in
the ASALMS marks the date on the calender no matter what. This season will
definitely be no exception especially now that it’s the 2007 Season Opener!
The ASALMS Northern Division will kick off the 2007 Racing Season at the
beautiful O’Reilly (IN) Raceway Park at Indianapolis (Formally Indianapolis
Raceway Park) on Friday and Saturday April 27-28, 2007 in the running of the
2007 Season Opener for the ASALMS Northern Division; The A.S.I. Limited 100
Presented by Lucas Oil Products and Ed Martin Automotive Group. Joining the
ASALMS Northern Division 2007 Season Opener will be the MMRA Super Cups
Series.

Division opener while another Indianapolis based company; Lucas Oil Products
has stepped up to the plate as a presenting sponsor for the 2007 ASALMS
Northern Division Season Opener. A second presenting sponsor has also jumped
on board as the Anderson, Indiana based Ed Martin Automotive Group will also
be a part of the 2007 ASALMS Northern Division opening weekend festivities.
“Going to Indy has become a tradition with us, and by making it our ASALMS
Northern Division opener, we hope its an instant success and it can continue
as the opener for many years to come.” Remarked ASALMS Co-Founder/President,
Ron Varney. “I’m really looking forward to the 2007 season in the ASALMS
Northern Division, we’ve closed our radius of travel by quite a bit to help
our teams afford to race with us more often. The 2007 season is going to be a
lot of fun to watch in the Northern Division.” Varney ended.
The fast 0.686 Mile Progressively Banked Paved Oval will host the ASALMS for
the fourth time overall and second appearance by the ASALMS Northern Division.
Last season during the A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products and
TMC Transportation back on July 22, 2006, Kelly Bires, the eventual 2006
ASALMS Challenge Division Champion and Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the
Year, made a rare appearance in ASALMS North competition and took home the
Feature win.
Bires took the lead from Bobby Parsley on lap three and from there, the
Mauston, Wisconsin freshman set sail en route to winning his first and what
would be his only ASALMS Northern Division triumph. Michigan Motorsports Hall
of Famer, Butch Miller mustered up a late charge for Bires, but settled for
second ahead of Parsley, Brian Campbell, and Landon Cassill, who completed the
Top Five.
Cassill broke 2005 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion, Stephen Leichts’
track record in Qualifying by turning a 22.259. 41 machines took to the former
Indianapolis Raceway Park in 2006. Tinley Park, Illinois pilot, Tony
D’Ambrose took home the 25-lap GM Performance Parts Shootout.
In 2005, Medina, Ohio veteran, Jack Smith took the biggest feature win of his
career at the time, when he held off eventual 2005 ASALMS Challenge Division
Champion, Stephen Leicht to win the A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Howe
Racing Enterprises and Holloway Sportswear on July 30, 2005. Leicht settled
for second over 2005 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year, Brian Campbell,
Ryan Tedesco, and Chad Wood the top five. 38 machines were on hand!
2004 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion and Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the
Year, Bobby Stremme took the win in the SK Hand Tools 100 back on July 31,
2004 in convincing fashion over Doug Mahlik, Scott Baker, Ryan Tedesco, and
Michael Grueneberg, the top five. 44 teams made their way to the Capital city
of Indiana. An average of 41 cars have made their way to the Clermont, Indiana
speed plant in three previous ASALMS appearances.
The home of the Kroger Speedfest for the NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman
Trucks Series, and the USAC Silver Crown Series will have an aggressive 15
race schedule in 2007, highlighted by the Kroger Speedfest complete with the
new dates of July 26-28, 2007. In addition, USAC Sprints and Midgets will make
their annual appearances while the PRA Big Cars, the USA Modifieds Series, CRA
Super Series, and the Indiana Speed Series Cars and Trucks will also highlight
the schedule in addition to the ASALMS Northern Division opener.
