2007 ASA Late Model Series Drivers/Owners Meeting A Rousing Success

Lexington, Michigan (01/22/2007): The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM
Performance Parts has completed both the 2007 ASALMS Drivers/Owners Meeting
and the 2006 ASALMS Awards Banquet. Both were held over the weekend at the
Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday
January 20, 2007.
Saturday morning began the busy day of activity for the ASALMS as bright and
early at 9:30am was the 2007 Drivers/Owners Meeting for all divisions and was
Presented by Port City Racing and McGunegill Engine Performance.
Throughout the morning and into the early afternoon, ASALMS
Co-Founder/President, Ron Varney spoke at length to the over 150 participants
in attendance in a jam packed Kentucky room inside the Clarion Conference
Center, which was adjacent to the cavernous Banquet Hall which would be
hosting the Awards Ceremony later in the evening.
The 2007 Fifth Anniversary Season Programs were discussed at the
Drivers/Owners Meeting. Amongst the highlights of the meeting was the return
of the GM Performance Parts Winners Circle Program. For a driver who completes
the entire 2007 schedule within all three divisions of the ASALMS, they will
receive a total payout, with bonuses included of $10,000.
The only conflicting date on the entire 2007 schedule is on October 6, 2007
when the ASALMS Northern Division is at the LaCrosse (WI) Fairgrounds Speedway
while the ASALMS Southern Division is at the DeSoto (FL) Super Speedway. A
team must attend one or the other to count towards the GM Performance Parts
Winner Circle Program!
In addition, the GM Performance Parts Winners Circle Program is a step ladder
program. For a team that completes two of the three posted 2007 Schedules,
whether it’s Challenge/Northern or Challenge/Southern, that team will
receive a total payout, with bonuses included of $4,500 for completing two of
the three schedules of events.
Finally for a team that runs a complete schedule in one of the three
divisions, there are bonuses as well. For a team that runs the entire 2007
ASALMS Challenge Division Schedule, they will receive a bonus $1,500 from the
GM Performance Parts Winners Circle Program, while a team that runs just the
complete ASALMS Northern or Southern Division Schedules will get a bonus
$1,000!
In more announcements, both the 2007 Purse Structure and the 2007 Points Funds
have been raised as the ASALMS Challenge Division purse will start at $6,000
to win with $725 to start. Each Challenge Division event will range from
150-200 laps depending on the hosting facility. Some races will see an
increased purse beginning with the 2nd annual Alamo 200 on Friday and Saturday
March 2-3, 2007 at the San Antonio (TX) Speedway in San Antonio, Texas. The
200-lap Feature will pay a whopping $10,000 to win and $1,000 just to start.
In addition, the famed Bristol (TN) Motor Speedway will host the ASALMS
Challenge Division on Friday and Saturday August 3-4, 2007 in the running of
the Bristol 200. Plans are in the works for every team from the fastest to the
slowest qualifiers that comes to the historic 0.533 Mile High-Banked Paved
Oval and home to the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, will run a Feature of some type
during the weekend.
In addition, the Challenge Division will make return appearances to the Music
City (TN) Motorplex twice, with one event being a non points race pitting all
three divisions within the ASALMS against one another during the 25th annual
All-American 400 Weekend on November 2-3-4, 2007. Return visits are also
slated for three premiere facilities; The Iowa (IA) Speedway, Berlin (MI)
Raceway and the Milwaukee (WI) Mile.
Hawkeye Downs (IA) Speedway returns to the schedule after hosting a Northern
Division event only in 2006 while new facilities includes; Toledo (OH)
Speedway, Cayuga (ON) Motorsports Park, Motor Mile (VA) Speedway, and the 2007
ASALMS Challenge Division Season Championships will be held at the Five Flags
(FL) Speedway on September 28-29, 2007.
As for the ASALMS Northern and Southern Divisions, they will see an increase
of $3,000 to win and $525 just to start for their respective Features that
will range from 100-125 lap Features depending on the size of the facility
with the special North VS South All-Star Shootout/World Cup 200 at the I-70
(MO) Speedway on September 22-23 being a 200-lap Feature with a special purse
to be announced.
Also announced is a weekend near and dear to the heart of the ASALMS as the
3rd annual Mid-Michigan Doubles Weekend will commence in the series home state
of Michigan on Friday and Saturday August 17-18, 2007.
The weekend begins at the fast 0.400 Mile Progressively Banked Paved Oval of
the Dixie (MI) Motor Speedway, located North of Flint in Birch Run, Michigan
on Friday the 17th and concluding at the 0.375 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval of
the Owosso (MI) Speedway, located Northeast of Lansing in Ovid, Michigan on
Saturday the 18th. Bonuses galore will be on the line if a team can sweep the
weekend and several other bonuses will be announced.
In addition, the ASALMS Northern Division will begin the season at the
O’Reilly (IN) Raceway Park at Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday April
27-28, 2007 for the A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products.
Return visits for the ASALMS Northern Division are set for the I-70 (MO)
Speedway twice, Grundy County (IL) Speedway, Hawkeye Downs (IA) Speedway, the
ASALMS Northern Division Season Championships at the LaCrosse (WI) Fairgrounds
Speedway on Saturday October 6, 2007, and the 2007 Door Closer at the Music
City (TN) Motorplex. New to the 2007 ASALMS Northern Division Schedule are
Madison (WI) International Speedway and the Rockford (IL) Speedway. Both
facilities have hosted the ASALMS Challenge Division in years past.
Finally for the ASALMS Southern Division, the 2007 season begins at the
Bronson (FL) Motor Speedway on Friday and Saturday March 16-17, 2007 for the
running of the Gator 100. Return visits are set for the Watermelon Capital
(GA) Speedway, South Georgia (GA) Motorsports Park, Orange County (NC)
Speedway, I-70 (MO) Speedway, Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway, and the 2007 Door
Closer at the Music City (TN) Motorplex.
New to the 2007 ASALMS Southern Division Schedule includes two appearances at
the famed Birmingham (AL) International Raceway with the second and final
appearance slated as the 2007 ASALMS Southern Division Season Championships on
Saturday October 27, 2007. Also new to the schedule is the New Smyrna (FL)
Speedway, Senoia (GA) Speedway, and the Desoto (FL) Super Speedway.
Some of the featured speakers during the 2007 ASALMS Drivers/Owners Meeting
included Bill Martens from GM Performance Parts, Karen Krupka-Smith from the
Choice Hotels Chain, and Terry Johnson from Crane Cams. In addition, Two-Time
NASCAR Busch Series Champion, Randy LaJoie from “The Joie of Seating”
spoke about safety within auto racing. Plus Andy Weynberg from Miller
Electric, Rolfe Schnur from the Future Stars Training and Development Academy
all talked to the packed house on hand.
Finally new ASALMS Challenge and Northern Division Head Tech Director, Russ
Chapman as well as ASALMS Southern Division Head Tech Director, Dennis Rezach,
spoke to the teams and both went over the 2007 rule book for all three
divisions within the ASALMS.
Also representatives from ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products, Five Star Race
Car Bodies, Hoosier Racing Tires, Howe Racing Enterprises, M.P.H. Promotions,
Penske Racing Shocks, Performance Concepts, Racing Anonymous Inc., R.V.
Performance, and Torco Racing Fuels, were also in attendance answering the
teams questions.
