Governors Cup weekend will feature the televised ASALMS Challenge Division on Friday and Saturday afternoon at the famed one (1) mile long semi-banked paved oval. The West Allis, Wisconsin speed plant will become the biggest track the ASALMS has ever raced on in its’ four year history!

This will be the inaugural appearance for the ASALMS Challenge Division at the famed Milwaukee Mile! The qualifying and race format has been altered slightly for the ninth race of the 2006 season. The first of two schedule practice sessions actually occurs on Friday August 25, 2006 at 4:00pm for one hour with Practice Tech also beginning on Friday.

Bright and early on Saturday morning, everything gets underway at 6:30am with Rig Parking followed by Registration at 7:00pm. The Pit Gates and Practice Tech then open up at 7:30am with the cars and stars of the televised ASALMS Challenge Division taking on the one (1) mile semi-banked paved oval at 8:45am for their final one hour practice session!

Qualifying Tech and Tire Impound is set to open up very early as well, at 9:30am during the final 15 minutes of practice!

For ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Qualifying, which will begin at 10:45am, the Top 26 cars will be locked into the Governors Cup 150! Positions 27-30 will come from the current ASALMS Challenge Division Owners Points Standings.

Finally row 16 (Positions 31-32) will be reserved for Past Champions of the ASALMS, if those aren’t needed, then the next two teams in ARP Bodies Qualifying will fill out the remainder of the starting field for a 32-car field that will take the green flag for the Governors Cup 150 on Saturday afternoon.

The GM Performance Parts Shootout, for teams that unfortunately do not qualify into the 150-lap feature, will not be held for this event, making ARP Bodies Qualifying at an absolute premium for the pre entered field of 46 cars from 13 different states that are expected to challenge the historic one (1) mile semi-banked paved oval!

Following the companion Mid-American Stock Car Series Last Chance Races, ARCA Remax Series Practice, and later the Mid-Am 40-lap Feature, it’s then time for the ninth event of the 2006 season for the crown jewel of the ASALMS, the televised Challenge Division.

After Pre Race Ceremonies and Driver Introductions, the Governors Cup 150 will get the green flag for the special afternoon Feature event at 3:30pm. All times are in accordance with Central Standard Time (CST).

Since 1903, The Milwaukee Mile has been one of the premier venues in American motorsports. Nearly every major auto racing sanction body has hosted events at The Mile through its century of existence.

The roster of past winners at the track includes the greatest names in both open wheel and stock car racing. A listing of past ASA drivers that have won at Milwaukee is also stacked with accomplished "name" competitors.

The now defunct ASA National Tour had a prominent place in the stock car history at The Milwaukee Mile, holding 35 events there since 1978. Starting with the first event at the Mile on May 7, 1978, the historical ASA’s all-time wins leader, Bob Senneker recorded that first victory at the Milwaukee Mile.

Some of the biggest winners over the years at the Mile include, Wisconsin Legend, Dick Trickle as well as the late Alan Kulwicki. Other winners on that impressive list include, Butch Miller, the only driver in the field with a victory at the Mile!

In addition, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Jim Sauter, Seven-time Champion in the now defunct ASA National Tour, Mike Eddy, former champion, Johnny Benson Jr., three-time Champion in the old historical tour, Kevin Cywinski, Mike Garvey, the late Joe Shear and most recently, Wisconsin’s own, Bryan Reffner on August 29, 2004.
