Robbins Leads GM Performance Parts Shootout Points Standings Heading Into Madison
By: ASA Late Model Series Staff
Lexington, Michigan (04/05/2006): The ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division
now has two races in the record books. The Hill Country Satellite DirecTV
Alamo 200 Presented by Express Lube was a rousing success for both the ASALMS
and the San Antonio (TX) Speedway.
The San Antonio, Texas speed plant, which is celebrating its’ 30th year of
operation proudly boasted that the crowd on hand for the Alamo 200 was what
Owner/Promoter, Terry Dickerson described as a “The biggest crowd we’ve
ever had since I’ve been here. They were standing five to 10 deep in the
aisle ways, there just wasn’t any more room to sit anywhere!” Dickerson
added.
Prior to the Alamo 200, the ASALMS Challenge Division ran the GM Performance
Parts Shootout. Despite a limited amount of competitors who took the green
flag for the GMPP Shootout, eventual race winner, Eddy Wallace and
14-year-old, Hunter Robbins put on an entertaining dual throughout the
shortened 12-lap affair.
The GM Performance Parts Shootout is a feature event for drivers who
unfortunately do not qualify into the Main feature of the weekend. Last
season, drivers did not transfer to the main event from the Shootout and that
is once again the case in 2006, with the exception of Nashville last month.
Round Rock, Texas veteran, Eddy Wallace withstood a race long challenge from
one half of the WalTom Racing young guns, Hunter Robbins, to take the win in
the GMPP Shootout. Robbins, the 14-year-old teammate to unofficial Pat Bourdow
Memorial Rookie of the Year co-Points Leader, Kelly Bires, finished a strong
second and took over the GMPP Shootout Points Lead.

“Obviously we wanted to be in the Alamo 200, but any seat time I get in
these cars and on these tires, the better off I will be down the road.”
Stated the Montgomery, Alabama teenager, in the on track post race interview
on the front stretch last Saturday night. “It’s still early in the season
and I’m still learning. Everyone at WalTom have been super with me,
they’ve been patient and learning right along side me. We’ll be
alright.” He added.
As the ASALMS Challenge Division takes some time off before heading to the
Madison (WI) International Speedway over the Memorial Day holiday weekend,
Robbins will pull into the Oregon, Wisconsin ½ mile as the GMPP Shootout
Points Leader! Robbins holds a 32 point lead over the first two GMPP Shootout
winner, Wallace and Nashville GMPPSO winner, Frank Kreyer.
During the 2005 season, Robbins won the biggest race of his young career when
he took the win in the 6th annual Snowflake 100 at the Five Flags (FL)
Speedway in Pensacola, Florida during Snowball Derby Weekend. Robbins also won
the Season Championship feature, also at Five Flags in their Pro Late Models
Division.
Robbins began his racing career at just six years old racing go-karts. In that
first year, he won his first track championship racing against competitors as
old as 12. At 11, he graduated from go-karts to Bandolero cars. During the
2003 season, and as the only competitor from Alabama competing nationally,
Hunter raced all over the South in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina,
finishing second in points at the Atlanta (GA) Motor Speedway. He also
finished ninth at Lowe’s (NC) Motor Speedway and captured the National
Bandolero Championship.
After winning the National Bandolero Championship, his next step was full size
Late Models, in which Hunter began in January, 2004 as one of the youngest
drivers in the Southern All-Star series.
Robbins’ Late Model debut was a Southern All Star Race at Montgomery Motor
Speedway, finishing 15th out of 24 competitors. With the exception of that
race, he finished sixth place or better the rest of the season.
He captured second place in the points championship at Montgomery (AL) Motor
Speedway and won the 2004 Alabama 250 at Montgomery. Robbins also placed fifth
in the annual Bob Harmon Memorial All Pro 250.
For the remainder of the 2006 season, Robbins will continue to compete for the
Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year championship in the ASALMS Challenge
Division. Robbins will carry primary sponsorship on the side of his WalTom
Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo from Texor Performance Fuels.
In addition, associate sponsorship comes from; GM Performance Parts, Howe
Racing Enterprises, Appleton Rack-Pinions, Mac Tools, Action Collectables,
Woodward Precision Power Steering, Selex LLC, Robbie Pyle Designs, Lafayette
Coal Company, AFCO Racing Shocks, Penske Racing Shocks, Hawk Performance
Brakes, US Brakes, AT Performance Products, Cheetah Gears, and Quartermaster.
The crown jewel of the ASALMS, the Challenge Division will now take almost two
months off to allow for the companion Northern and Southern Divisions’ to
get their 2006 seasons off and running.
The next event for the ASALMS is for the ASALMS Southern Division, who returns
to action after a month off this Saturday April 8th at the Shenandoah (VA)
Speedway in Shenandoah, Virginia for the Virginia 100.

at the Beech Bend (KY) Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the
running of the Beech Bend 100.

event on Saturday May 6th at the wicked fast ½ mile of the I-70 (MO) Speedway
outside of Kansas City in Odessa, Missouri for the Show-Me 100.
The ASALMS Southern Division returns to action on Friday May 12th at another
wicked fast ½ mile. This time the Five Flags (FL) Speedway in Pensacola,
Florida will host the Pensacola 100.
The first race weekend where both the Northern and Southern division stars are
both in action on the same day comes on Saturday May 20th. The Northern
Division stars make their one and only appearance at the Lake Geneva (WI)
Speedway on Saturday May 20th for the Lake Geneva 100.
That same day the Southern Division will be down South at the famed Hickory
(NC) Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina for the Hickory 100.
Finally to complete the month of May, the televised ASALMS Challenge Division
returns to action over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend. Friday and Saturday
May 26-27 the cars and stars will take on the best the state of Wisconsin has
to offer at the Madison (WI) International Speedway outside of Madison, in
Oregon, Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin 200 will kick off the holiday weekend that will also see the
teams pull double duty over the same weekend. After the Madison Challenge
Division event, the ASALMS Northern Division will complete the Memorial Day
holiday weekend on Sunday and Monday May 28-29 at the Grundy County (IL)
