The ASALMS Challenge Division Championship in his sights!
By: ASA Late Model Series Staff
Lexington, Michigan (03/13/2006): The 2006 season for the ASA Late Model
Series Presented by GM Performance Parts is the most talked about traveling
series in the country.
The young, up and coming drivers that run the ASALMS combined with the skilled
veterans who regularly run the series as well as those who will move to the
ASALMS from other series’, make the driver roster in the ASALMS something to
behold.
From top to bottom, the pre registered drivers list reads like a who’s who
of the auto racing industry. The anticipation of the first televised ASALMS
Challenge Division event, the Waffle House 200 at the Music City (TN)
Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee is at a fever pitch.
One driver who’s looking forward to the challenges and the increased
competition for the 2006 season is the senior member of the “Young Lions of
the ASALMS”! Soon to be 19-year-old, Travis Dassow will be awaiting those
looking to make their mark, along-with the returning cast of ASALMS contenders
in the Music City!
For the 2006 season, Travis Dassow and the T.D. Racing Team are looking to
squelch the theory of a “Sophomore Slump” and look to challenge for the
ASALMS Challenge Division championship and in the process get that coveted
first career ASALMS feature win!
"We are really looking forward to the upcoming season, especially with
our late season success last year." Stated Dassow as the T.D. Racing Team
looks forward to the upcoming 2006 season. "I definitely believe that we
can go out and compete any given race weekend for a victory this season after
learning what we did last year" He added.
The pre registered list for the ASALMS Challenge Division looks impressive to
say the least, but Dassow isn’t worried about the influx of “new”
drivers coming in. "I know that the ASALMS Challenge Division will be
much more competitive than what it was last season, but with the improvements
to the team and keeping the same nucleus of guys together, I know we will be a
much better race team." Dassow continued.
Dassow and the team are ready for Nashville and the future looks bright for
the West Bend, Wisconsin driver, who will turn 19 during practice day Friday
at the famed Tennessee State Fairgrounds oval. “We’re looking forward to
the beginning of the year, I can't be more excited.” Dassow stated.
As for the traveling the teams are about to embark on during the 2006 season,
Dassow was excited about the first event! “When I first saw the schedule and
that Nashville was the first race on the schedule, I was really excited.” He
continued. “Nashville is my favorite track and I’ve always run very good
there, we have just always had some bad luck getting the finishes there that
we deserved.” He ended.
Going into the 2006 season, Dassow has been deemed the “Patriarch” of the
“Young Lions of the ASALMS.” A list of young up and coming drivers, still
in their teens, that are widely considered amongst their peers and observers
as ones to watch for the upcoming season!
Amongst the other drivers, in the 12 total, that are also included in the
“Young Lions” are; Landon Cassill, Keeton Hanks, Matt Hawkins, and rookie
Hunter Robbins.
During the 2005 season, Dassow finished in ninth place overall in the season
long point chase and as for the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title
chase, Dassow finished an impressive fifth place in the freshman title
chase.
Dassow was solid throughout his rookie season in the ASALMS with three Top
Five’s and five Top 10 finishes. Dassow’s season high finish was a third
place showing and first ever appearance on the podium, back on August 20, 2005
at the Sandusky (OH) Speedway during the Domino’s Pizza 100.
Also during the 2005 season, Dassow ran on Sunday nights at the fast
high-banked 1/4 mile of the Slinger (WI) Super Speedway where he finished a
solid 11th place in the final points standings in addition to running
full-time with the ASALMS.
Dassow began his racing career in snowmobiles at age five, he accumulated 10
points titles and five world championships. At eight years old, Dassow began
racing go-karts at a variety of tracks through the Midwest and won two track
championships.
Dassow advanced to stock car racing at the Wisconsin Dells (WI) Motor Speedway
in 2002 and right off the bat in the high-powered Super Late Models division,
earning the Super Late Models Rookie of the Year honors and backed it up the
following year in 2003, with a top 10 points finish.
The soon to be 19-year-old capped off another great season again with a top 10
points finish in 2004 at the fast quarter-mile Slinger (WI) Super Speedway.
Also in 2004, Dassow set fast time and established a new track record at
Rockford (IL) Speedway during the 2004 ASALMS Season Championship event.
For the upcoming 2006 season, Travis will carry sponsorship on the side of his
