Cornelius To Make Select ASALMS Appearances In 2006

Lexington, Michigan (03/08/2006): The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM
Performance Parts 2006 season is now under way for at least one of the three
divisions within the Lexington, Michigan based series.
Looking down the road the racing season for the rest of the country gets under
way in April and as late as May. For one driver, his ASALMS season will get
underway over the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
Dean Cornelius, the 2005 MARS Series Rookie of the Year, has announced his
intentions for the upcoming 2006 season and they include appearances with the
ASALMS.
For the 2006 season, Dean Cornelius Racing with Chaska, Minnesota driver, Dean
Cornelius will run select events within both the televised ASALMS Challenge
Division as well as the ASALMS Northern Division.
His ASALMS schedule will begin with the Madison 200 on Friday and Saturday May
26-27 at the Madison (WI) International Speedway near Madison, in Oregon,
Wisconsin to kick off the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Cornelius is no
stranger to victory lane at the fast ˝ mile high-banked paved oval. He won
the MARS event there back on September 2, 2005.
“We plan on doing well in the shows we run, we hope to progress as fast as
we can and get dialed in with the crate motor package.” Stated Cornelius as
he discussed his plans for the 2006 season. “We’d like to go full-time in
2007, so for this season, we’ll get our feet wet and run as many shows close
to us as possible.” He added.
During the 2005 season, Cornelius competed primarily in the now defunct
Midwest All-Star Racing Series (MARS Series) based in Wisconsin. Cornelius was
crowned the series Rookie of the Year and finished second overall in the final
points chase.
Cornelius picked up one feature win at the Madison (WI) International Speedway
back on September 2, 2005. ““Our first ASALMS race will be at Madison, I
know that track pretty well and have won there.” Cornelius continued. “We
want to be as comfortable as possible in our first ASALMS race!” He ended.
The Chaska, Minnesota pilot also made appearances with the Wisconsin Challenge
Series during the 2005 season. In addition, he saw time in the Minnesota Late
Model Challenge Series as well as select appearances on Minnesota pavement
facilities such as the Elko Speedway, I-94 Raceway, and Raceway Park in
Shakopee, Minnesota.
Cornelius began his racing career in 1990 in Quarter Midgets and from then
until 1998, the now 21-year-old raced locally and nationally with Numerous
Feature wins, Track records, and Championships. In 1999, Cornelius advanced
into the American Short Trackers Division at Raceway Park in Shakopee,
Minnesota and promptly went out and won the Rookie of the Year title with four
feature wins.
In 2000, he advanced into the Late Models division and won the Rookie of the
Year title at Raceway Park while in 2001, he won his first ever Late Model
feature! In 2002, Cornelius finished second in points at Raceway Park with two
feature wins while also running full-time at near-by Elko (MN) Speedway where
also won two features there and finished sixth in points.
The 2003 season saw Cornelius put it all together to score his first career
track championship at Raceway Park! The Gopher State pilot racked up eight
feature wins and also ran full-time again at Elko where he again finished
sixth in points with two more features, giving him 10 for the season. In 2004,
it was back to Raceway Park only where he picked up five feature wins to
finish in the runner-up position in the final points chase.
For the 2006 season, Dean Cornelius will make select appearances in both the
televised ASALMS Challenge Division Championship as well as the ASALMS
Northern Division. In addition, Cornelius also looks to run the full schedule
of events in the Wisconsin Challenge Series.
Cornelius will carry sponsorship on the side of his Chevrolet Monte Carlo
throughout the upcoming season from Northern Racing Products as well as Ron
Parker Trucking, Community Realty/Jeff Cornelius, HR Performance Products,
Lawson Products Inc., and Tesar Engineering are all on the side of his
Lefthander Chassis carrying a Five Star Stock Car Body.
The hard-working pit crew consists of: Car Owner, Ron Parker as well as Ben
Fine, Jimmy Johnson, Arnie Olson, Dan Kirk, Kevin Kirk, and Eric Norheim. To
