Wills To Run For ASALMS Challenge Division Rookie Title
By: ASA Late Model Series Staff

Lexington, Michigan (02/16/2006): With the youth movement in the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts in full force, the rookie class for the 2006 season is shaping up to be another strong class in 2006.

In the quest for the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the ASALMS Challenge Division, the teenage invasion is once again prevalent. As proved by last season however, the over 21 crop of rookies in 2005 showed the way.

Jason Dietsch and Ryan Carlson, both over 21, were the only freshman to win a feature during their maiden voyage in the ASALMS. The top two in the final Rookie title chase were also over 21. Including the 2005 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year, Brian Campbell and runner-up, Kris Stump.

One driver hopes that’s a good sign for him as he moves up into the ASALMS Challenge Division and has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2006 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title. That driver is 32-year-old, Ken Wills.

For the 2006 season, 5K Motorsports with Wills behind the wheel, will be running the full schedule in the televised ASALMS Challenge Division and will be going for the 2006 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year championship!

In addition, Wills plans on running select events with the ASALMS Northern Division as well as with the ASALMS Southern Division. Wills’ will also return to his home track of the Slinger (WI) Super Speedway when the 2006 schedule allows.

“We’ve got a busy season ahead of us.” Stated Wills as his 2006 season fast approaches. “We’re going after the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the Challenge Division. We’re dedicated to competing as a championship caliber team and I can’t wait for the first race.” Wills added.

The 2005 season saw Wills make the big jump into the high-powered Super Late Models division primarily at Slinger. Wills would post a 13th place finish in the final points standings in an ultra competitive field that runs every Sunday at the worlds fastest 1/4 mile. Wills recorded two Top Five finishes which were both fifth place showings. One of those Top Fives came on Season Championships night. Will would also score nine Top 10 showings as well.

“I call him Mr. Polite!” Stated ASALMS Northern Division director, Steve Einhaus. “I’m happy to see guys like Ken coming to the ASALMS. He's very laid back and easy going. He races real hard and is very competitive but his off track demeanor is very well received.” Added Einhaus.

Wills started his racing career as a pit crew member for former ASA National Tour driver, Kent Stauffer as well as various other teams from 1987-1993. The racing bug hit in 1997 and Wills began driving in 1997 in the Street Stocks division in Wisconsin.

Between 1997 and 1998, Wills won multiple features at the Columbus 151 (WI) Speedway, State Park (WI) Speedway, and the Wisconsin Dells (WI) Motor Speedway. He also established the track record at State Park.

In 1999, Wills made the transition to the Allison Legacy National Touring Series which utilizes cars that are 3/4 scale to NASCAR Nextel Cup machines. In his rookie season, Wills won two features, finished second overall in the series points standings and was crowned the 1999 Rookie of the Year.

In 2000, Wills again finished second in the final points standings in the Allison Legacy National Touring Series. He would pick up four feature wins including two at the Lake Geneva (WI) Speedway as well as a win apiece at the Madison (WI) International Speedway and the Rockford (IL) Speedway.

2001 saw the 5K Motorsports Team advance into the open wheeled Midwest Modifieds division primarily at his home track of the Slinger (WI) Super Speedway. From 2001-2004, Wills picked up numerous feature wins and he didn’t limit himself to just Slinger. He would also win multiple features back at the tracks where he enjoyed Street Stocks success. The State Park Speedway and the Wisconsin Dells Speedway.

In that four year span of running in Midwest Modifieds, Wills would go on to win an incredible 25% of the events he entered!

Wills is also the President of Quality Packaging Incorporated, based in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin and is a provider of turn key package solutions with two manufacturing facilities operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. www.qpack.com
