By ASA Late Model Series Staff
February 8th, 2006
Lexington, Michigan (02/08/2006): With the ASA Late Model Series Presented by
GM Performance Parts expanding into three traveling series beginning with the
2006 season, there was a natural need for more staff to handle the workload
within all three divisions of the ASALMS.
One of the toughest jobs at the race track for series officials is that of the
Tech Director. The ASALMS is proud to announce the addition of former driver,
Ken Lund to the staff beginning with the 2006 season. Lund will serve as the
Tech Director for the ASALMS Northern Division as well as working in
cooperation with the ASALMS Southern Division Tech Director and selected Tech
officials within the ASALMS Challenge Division.
“I look forward to this new challenge as I have always been on the other
side of the fence so to speak as a competitor and look forward to enforcing a
fair and unbiased set of rules set in motion by the ASALMS in the last few
years.” Stated Lund as he talked about the upcoming 2006 season. The ASALMS
truly is a racer’s series that’s very affordable for the average racer who
wants to move up in his-her career as a driver.” Lund added.
Ken is married to wife Debbie, and together they have four children and two
grandchildren. The 54-year-old Sun Prairie, Wisconsin native, worked
professionally in the automotive field for a Ford dealership in Madison,
Wisconsin for 25 years. 18 years as a technician and seven in management.
As far as Lund’s racing career, it began after he graduated from the local
technical college, in the Hobby Stock division for two seasons before he began
racing Super Late Models. His Super Late Model career was primarily in
Wisconsin until Lund began to run the old ASA Silver Creek series in the early
80’s.
In his first year in the historical ASA National Tour, Lund won the Pat
Schauer Rookie of the year award in 1984 and continued to compete in the
series until 1987 with many top fives and top ten finishes. Howie Lettow, the
Crew Chief for 2005 ASALMS Champion, Stephen Leicht, was also Lund’s Crew
Chief in 1984.
After time spent in the old ASA Tour, he began running locally again in the
Super Late Models and started running every week at the Madison (WI)
International Speedway in the 90’s winning several features driving for well
known car owner, Don Fanetti of Franklin, Wisconsin.
In 1998 Lund began to work full time in the old ASA series as a crew chief for
several drivers including current ASALMS competitor, Peter Cozzolino, as well
as Mike Garvey, Rick Beebe and Mike Cope who was his last driver.
The ASA Late Model Series Southern Division will open the 2006 season for the
ASALMS on Friday and Saturday March 3-4 at the Bronson (FL) Motor Speedway
near Gainesville in Bronson, Florida for the inaugural Florida 100.
The televised ASALMS Challenge Division will open the doors on their 2006
season two weeks later at the famed Music City (TN) Motorplex in Nashville,
Tennessee on Friday and Saturday March 17-18 for the running of the Spring
Clash 200.
Finally the all-new ASA Late Model Series Northern Division will hold its’
inaugural event on Saturday May 6th at the wicked fast ½ mile of the I-70
