Crane Looks To Step Into ASALMS Challenge And Northern Divisions

Lexington, Michigan (01/11/2006): The registrations for drivers from all over the country continue to come in daily to the home offices of the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts. Drivers with experience in other traveling series are seeing the benefits and the sheer talent of the drivers within the ASALMS and in turn want to be pat of it all. 

Independence, Missouri teenager, Billy Crane is one of those drivers who is looking into the future as far as his auto racing career is concerned. The Crane Racing Motorsports team has announced their intentions on running the full slate of events in both the ASALMS Challenge and Northern Divisions for the 2006 season. 

For the 2006 season, plans call for Crane to run a 2006 Ford Fusion with the ASA Late Model Series in the Challenge and Northern Divisions as well as about eight events in the CRA Super Series competition. In addition, Crane plans on events at his home track of I-70 (MO) Speedway in the tracks Super Saturday Series for the ASA Late Model Division, now the premiere weekly division at the wicked fast = mile located just outside of Kansas City in Odessa, Missouri.  

"The drivers who have registered with the ASALMS are quite an impressive group of racers and I feel privileged to be able to compete against them." Said Crane as he talked about the upcoming season. "I feel the 2006 racing season will be the year to improve myself as a driver to contend with. Racing with the ASALMS in 2006 will take our team forward with the knowledge and ability that comes with racing different tracks, competing against experienced drivers, and working with ASALMS officials." Added Crane. 

During the 2005 campaign, Crane finished a solid 11th in the season long points chase in the CRA Super Series while finishing second in the Rookie of the Year Points standings to 2005 CRA Series Rookie of the Year, Tommy St. John. Crane would also go on to win the Howe Racing Enterprises Performance Award for most positions gained (121) during the 2005 season.

"As a young man just getting into the racing world, the ASALMS offers many opportunities to be seen and noticed by professional race teams promoting young drivers, at the racetrack as well as televised races." Continued Crane. "Plus the ASALMS is giving our team the opportunity to race three times at our home track, I-70 Speedway, during the upcoming 2006 season. We always feel fortunate when we get to entertain our local race fans plus sleep in our own beds any given weekend." He ended. 

Crane's pavement career began a year earlier In 2004 where he finished fifth in Modified points and eighth in Late Model points at I-70 at the age of 14. Also in 2004, Crane made two appearances with the CRA Series to prepare for his full run in 2005. The Show-Me State Teenager finished 10th in his CRA Series debut at Baer Field (IN) Speedway on August 12, 2004 and his second appearance came during the World Cup 300 at his home track of I-70. In his second CRA Super Series event, he would finish 15th after starting 26th. 

Crane will steer his family owned machine, anchored by his Father, Kent Crane, a stout driver in his own right at I-70, and will carry sponsorship from Spray Paint & Equipment, as well as Pepsi America, and the Clark Timmons Oil Company. Crane's Port City Race Cars, Ford Fusion will carry a McGunegill Engine Performance Power plant under the hood.
