IRP Joins ASALM Northern Schedule
Indianapolis Raceway Park replaces the Angola Motor Speedway on the 2006 ASA Late Model Series Northern Division schedule.

Lexington, Michigan (12/14/05): The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts has announced that the Northern Division date at the Angola (IN) Motor Speedway originally scheduled for Saturday July 1, 2006 has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with the Angola, Indiana speed plant.

Replacing the date at Angola will be a return appearance to the famed Indianapolis (IN) Raceway Park West of the Indiana capital city of Indianapolis in Clermont, Indiana. The date for the event will be on Saturday July 22, 2006. The fast .686 mile semi-banked facility will host the ASA Late Model Series for the third time overall. This will be the first appearance however for the brand new ASA Late Model Series Northern Division.

"It's too bad that we had to cancel the Angola date, I was really looking forward to going back there." Stated ASA Late Model Series Founder/President, Ron Varney. "Unfortunately, they had a scheduling conflict over that date. We were there with the USPRO Cup Series in 2003 (won by 2003 Rookie of the Year, Mike Carter) and we had a great show." Varney continued. "But we're more than pleased that we were able to replace the Angola date with one at such a great race track as IRP!"

In two previous appearances at IRP, 2004 ASA Late Model Series Champion and Rookie of the Year, Bobby Stremme took the win in the SK Hand Tools 100 back on July 31, 2004 in convincing fashion over Doug Mahlik, Scott Baker, Ryan Tedesco, and Michael Grueneberg, the top five. 44 cars were on hand in an attempt to make the star studded field.

Last season, Jack Smith took the biggest feature win of his career when he held off 2005 ASA Late Model Series Champion and new track record holder, Stephen Leicht to win the A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Howe Racing Enterprises and Holloway Sportswear on July 30, 2005.

Leicht settled for second over 2005 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year, Brian Campbell,  Ryan Tedesco, his second fourth place finish in a row, and Chad Wood completed the top five. 38 machines were on hand! An average car count of 41 drivers have converged to IRP in two events held at the Clermont, Indiana facility.

"IRP is such a beautiful facility." Continued Varney. "We've had two excellent races there, the drivers, fans, and all the teams love going there just because of the history and the prestige of running at such a historic place." Stated Varney. "Plus it's an off weekend for the Southern Division drivers and Indy isn't that far away for them! It's going to be a great show!" He ended.

Joining the ASA Late Model Series Northern Division at IRP will be the Miniature Motorsports Racing Association (MMRA) for their biggest race of the season. The next scheduled event for the ASA Late Model Series will be the 2005 Awards Banquet to be held at the Quality Inn/Summit Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday January 14, 2006, beginning at 6pm. The ASA Late Model Series will honor the 2005 ASA Late Model Series Champion, Stephen Leicht, as well as the 2005 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year, Brian Campbell and the top twenty drivers in the final points standings.

In addition, the GM Performance Parts Winner's Circle participants will be awarded as will the GM Performance Parts Shootout Points Champion, Mark Hartline, along-with special sponsored awards and some surprise awards which will be handed out as well.

The banquet is a semi-formal event and we encourage everyone to put on their best. The ASA Late Model Series will continue with the tradition that started with the first annual banquet to begin the awards presentation first followed by dinner and dancing. Everyone is welcome to attend and to celebrate the 2005 season. Attendance is mandatory for teams receiving awards. Tickets for the banquet must be purchased in advance through the ASALM Series Office.

Also on that same day, the 2006 ASA Late Model Series Owner/Drivers meeting will also be held at the Quality Inn/Summit Center from 9am-Noon. This meeting will be open for all three divisions and its' participants and the ASA Late Model Series management and staff encourages all teams that plan on running with any of the three traveling series in 2006 to attend or send a representative to the meeting.
