Fan’s Seating Guide to Jefferson Speedway ASA Midwest Tour Event
CAMBRIDGE, WI (May 11, 2007) – Super Late Model racing will return to
Jefferson Speedway Saturday May 19 as the stars of the American Speed
Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment
take on the local heroes of the quarter-mile asphalt oval.
Jefferson
Speedway is a progressive banked quarter-mile located between Jefferson and
Cambridge in South Central Wisconsin along US Highway 18. The facility hosts
Limited Late Model, Sportsman, Hobby Stock, International, and 4-Cylinder Bandit
divisions Saturday nights through mid-September.
The track has an
atmosphere unlike any other and the feeling of good old fashioned short track
racing couldn’t be any stronger from the classic souvenir stand to the home
cooked meals at the pit gate.
“This event is particularly exciting for
me. I was born and raised in Fort Atkinson and spent my Saturday nights at
Jefferson. The family atmosphere and camaraderie is amazing and the fans are
passionate for their local heroes. The ASA Midwest Tour is the perfect way to
pair the local drivers with the best traveling stars in the Midwest and it’s
going to be a great show,” beamed ASAMT Media/PR Director Natasha
Steenbergen.
Mark Dewey and his family sit in the grandstands in turn
four, “I get to see how each car is coming off of the turn and getting to the
line; seeing how much or how little each car will run that turn to hold someone
else off and getting a bit loose is the greatest thing.”
Sportsman driver
Josh Courtney also sits in turn four, “All I can say is that all my fans and I
love seeing the two-and-three-wide racing coming off of turn 4 for the checkered
flag. Wow what a rush!”
Track announcer Randy Kamenick cites his
preferred viewing area as turn two, from the infield. While fans are unable to
join him there, that’s where the voice of wisdom speaks from. Local drivers Alex
Papini and several others indicated that they get the best view from Victory
Lane, a place every driver is hoping to be May 19 at the conclusion of the
Jefferson 100 presented by Lancaster Toyota of Madison.
“Uncle Jim”
Taylor has been around Jefferson Speedway longer than several of the ASA Midwest
Tour drivers have been alive, and gives his perspective, “During practice, I
stand at the end of the back stretch in the pits with my stop watch and time the
laps (a good place to get lap times without many obstructions and a straight
view to the start/finish line). During a race when I am on the radio spotting
for my driver, I stand outside the apex of turns 3 and 4 (the best view of the
track from the pits). When I watch other races that I am not involved with, I
usually stand underneath the score board because it is the closest point to the
track from our pit stalls. During qualifying, I park my chair right in front of
Seitz’s haulers by the port-a-potties because it's the closest speaker to our
pit stall and there is very little noise obstructions. When I go to Jefferson
just to watch a race, I'm always on the hill standing behind the crowd near the
beer stand.” Brent Nottestad chimed in, “No race looks better after 6 or 8 paper
cups stacked together.”
The hill has a completely unique family
environment. Lindsay Howe explains it best, “I have sat on the hill for years. I
think that it we sit there because of the other fans around us. We like the view
because you can see the whole track. The fans around us have also sat there for
years. We have all become like family up there. Jefferson is for family and that
is how it feels on the hill. We all may not agree on who our favorite driver is
but we sure have a lot of fun every week.”
Nancy Edmundson has another
helpful tip for families. “When we first started going to Jefferson we sat on
the grass by turn one. We had little ones in a stroller and it had easy access.
But as they grew bigger we then went into the front straight away bleachers
sitting next to the scoring tower. Great view of all the track and being near
the finish line and trophy area is great.”
Among those already registered
for the Jefferson 100 include local favorites Steve Dobbratz (Rio, WI), Dylan
Schuyler (Dousman, WI) and Kwik Trip Touring Stars Kenny Richards (Montello),
Nathan Haseleu (Marshall), Rod Wheeler (Hortonville), Brad “JJ” Mueller (Random
Lake), Dave Feiler (Sun Prairie), Steve Carlson (West Salem), Travis Sauter
(Necedah), Dan Fredrickson (Lakeville, MN), Josh Vadnais (White Bear Lake, MN),
Donny Reuvers (Dundas, MN), Adam Royle (Farmington, MN), and Jamie Iverson
(Escanaba, MI), and NASCAR veteran Rich Bickle, native to Edgerton. Bickle has
competed in the top-tier of NASCAR on and off since 1989 and was runner up to
the Craftsman Truck Series championship in 1997.
“This is going to be a
special event that our fans will not want to miss. Super Late Model racing at
Jefferson Speedway is something you don’t see very often and we are truly
excited to have the ASA Midwest Tour visiting us and our fans. Many of the
greatest short track competitors in the country will be right here on this race
track and it will be one heck of a show,” stated Speedway owner Terry
Tucker.
“Jefferson Speedway is one of the nicest ‘old’ short tracks
around. The Tucker family has done a great job providing its fans with a very
clean well run facility and the racers with an awesome racetrack to compete on.
The fans are in for a treat on May 19 when they get to see true Super Late Model
racing with the Midwest’s hottest short track stars right in front of them,”
added ASAMT VP Steve Einhaus.
Adult grandstand general admission tickets
are $17 and are available at the track the day of the show. Fans returning from
a prior 2007 Jefferson Speedway weekly program can redeem their admission ticket
for a $2 discount May 19. Qualifying is scheduled for 4:00PM, followed by a
45-minute autograph session under the picnic pavilion beginning at 6:00 along
with the local division qualifying races. The program is slated to conclude by
11:00. Posted awards top $35,000.
Super Late Models are 500+ horsepower
fully fabricated tubular frame specially engineered racecars that can make a lap
around Jefferson Speedway in less than 13.5 seconds.
The rain date for
the Jefferson is Sunday, May 20, at 2:00PM.
Drivers will be at the Fort
Atkinson Kwik Trip located on Madison Avenue from 3-7PM Friday May 19
autographing posters and taking photos with fans.
There will be a home
track provisional granted to the highest finisher in 2006 Jefferson Speedway
point standings not locked into the show on qualifying time.
