Verdegan the Voice of ASA Midwest Tour

Joe Verdegan from Green Bay, Wisconsin, will be the voice of the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment for the 2007 season.

Verdegan is a well-known figure in Wisconsin auto racing. He has been announcing events for fourteen of his thirty-eight years. He writes a weekly racing column for the Green Bay Press Gazette and used to write weekly racing columns for both Midwest and Checkered Flag Racing News. Joe announces weekly and handles public relations at Luxemburg Speedway, fifteen minutes East of Green Bay.

“I've announced at no less than nine northeast Wisconsin tracks since I was 14 years old, including WIR in Kaukauna, Shawano, 141 Speedway, Seymour, Manitowoc, Sturgeon Bay and specials for the Mid American stock car, truck and MARS series,” Verdegan said, stopping to catch his breathe.

Verdegan graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a Bachelors of Science degree in broadcasting and journalism with a minor in public relations in 1991.

“I think what Steve and Tim are doing with this series is awesome. It reminds me of the old ARTGO series I used to chase with second cousin Scott Hansen (former ARTGO competitor).

“I'm looking forward to working at some tracks I've never been to before, especially in Minnesota and Iowa. I'm also looking forward to returning to the Wisconsin International Raceway, a track I announced at weekly from 1995-2000,” Verdegan concluded.

Racing is truly in Verdegan’s blood. His father was a pit steward, grandfather a flagman, and his mother was a trophy girl.

Joe has two sons ages 14 and 10. He has a cabin in northern Marinette County and enjoys spending time there. Just in case he would ever experience free time, Verdegan keeps himself extra busy coaching football for the last nine years and baseball for the last five years.

Verdegan will make his ASA Midwest Tour debut Saturday May 19 at the Jefferson Speedway in the running of the Jefferson 100 presented by Lancaster Toyota.
