ABC Raceway Announces Ambitious 2007 Schedule
March 15, 2007
by Nick Gima
Ashland, WI -- A variety of new events fills the recently released stock
car racing schedule for the upcoming season at the ABC Raceway.
The nineteen scheduled dates will feature a revamped Modified Triple Header
series, return visits by the AmsOil Late Model Series, Como Oil Modified
Series and Northern Vintage Race Cars group, and three shows featuring the
WISSOTA Midwest modifieds.
Also included in the slate are traditional events such as Kids’ Night, the
kids’ bike races, pure stock, street stock and super stock specials, and the
season-ending Red Clay Classic.
The racing action will begin on May 12 and continue every Saturday night
through August 25, along with events on other nights. The Northern Vintage
Race Cars club will perform as part of the race program on June 9, and the
younger race fans will be invited to compete on the red-clay oval during the
bike races on July 7.
The fourth annual pure stock special, renamed the Pure Excitement 25, will
take place on July 14, followed by a special event for WISSOTA street stocks
on July 21.
Open-wheelers will gain plenty of headlines at ABC in ‘07. WISSOTA modifieds
will perform in a revamped version of the Modified Triple Header, in which the
one-night, three-feature format has been changed to a three-night series.
Drivers will compete on Saturday, June 16; Tuesday, July 3; and Saturday,
August 4, for $1,000 to win each night, and a $2,000 points fund will pay the
overall series champion $750.
The July 3 date will also mark the first of two stops for the Como Oil
Modified Series at Ashland. The tour, which will also make two visits each at
tracks in Superior, Hibbing and Proctor, ends here during the 32nd Red Clay
Classic on September 28-29.
The Midwest mods have gained a strong following throughout the region, and
after an historic first appearance at ABC last August 19, they will be invited
back for three race dates this coming summer - on June 30, July 28 and August
11.
The AmsOil Late Model Series, for WISSOTA’s premier division, will also
return to the Ashland track on Friday, July 27. The tour returns to the
Northland after a one-year hiatus and will also compete at other area tracks.
Late models will return as the featured division for the Red Clay Classic,
joined again by mods and super stocks. The popular traditional season finale
is again expected to host over 200 racers competing for over $60,000 in prize
monies.
The ambitious schedule is the direct result of the addition of several new
businesses that have signed on as track sponsors for the 2007 season.
“Much of the enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming season, we owe to the
support of all our sponsors,” stated Raceway president Kurt Beeksma.
Official season-long sponsors for the track in 2007 will include FastLane
Motorsports, the Bad River Lodge & Casino, Pepsi, Heartland
Communications, Rivord Trucking, Northern State Bank, Little Caesar’s Pizza,
Xtreme Graphix, NAPA Auto Parts, Baxter’s Speed Shop, Chicago Iron &
Supply, the ABC Sportsman’s Club, and Ashland’s County Market.
Other marketing opportunities are available at the Raceway for local
businesses. Please contact Beeksma at (715) 682-4237 or Eric Erickson at (715)
682-5351 for more information.
A car show will be held at FastLane Motorsports in Ashland’s east end on
Saturday, April 28. All area drivers who have their race cars ready for action
are invited to show them off on FastLane’s front lawn that morning and
afternoon. For more information, contact FastLane at (715) 682-3278.
The ABC Raceway’s regular Saturday-night programs will feature WISSOTA-sanctioned
modifieds, super stocks and street stocks along with the track’s own
six-cylinders and pure stocks. The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of
Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road.
