Thiesse Blasts To Win At I-94 Raceway

(SAUK CENTRE, MN) July 4th--NASCAR Southwest Tour driver Nate Thiesse returned
to his home track for a visit and showed the huge crowd gathered that he still
knows the fast way around as Thiesse dominated the 100 Lap July Spectacular
Late Model Feature at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre. Thiesse started on the
pole and quickly assumed the lead. Tim Olson pressured early and took over
with a pass in turn one on lap five. Olson would lead the next few laps,
before Thiesse came charging back on lap 13. Nine cautions were scattered
throughout the race, allowing Danny Fredrickson and Gary Mueller to stay close
to Thiesse. Fredrickson’s car faded late in the race, while Mueller fought
hard to stay in third, even when his car brushed the front stretch wall on lap
31, getting the right side of his car airborne briefly. Stacy Rossell and
Trent Snyder came to life late in the race and the final caution with less
than ten laps remaining kept things close, but Thiesse proved to be the class
of the field as he motored on to the win.
Despite having a car that wasn’t handling the way he liked it, John Notch
maintained his perfect mark on the season as he won the Modified feature. An
early caution allowed Notch to take the lead on lap two. Joining Notch at the
front was Jon Lewerer, who pressured Notch hard the rest of the race. A yellow
with a handful of laps left gave Oren Hoeper a chance to duck into third right
behind the front pair. Notch did what he needed to do as he hung on the final
few laps to take the win.
Pat Maloney drove hard and came up big as he won the Super Stock Feature.
Gordy Mason had his car running well at the beginning as he took the lead from
Rob Dubnecay in the opening moments. Maloney, starting from near the back,
came charging through to take over midway through. Jim Larkin rallied late to
close in on Maloney, but that was as far as he would get as Maloney rolled
across for the win.
Tim Brockhouse has been close several times this year and finally he was able
to break through with his first win of the year in the Great North Legends
Feature. Todd Tracy got things going in a hurry as he set the pace. Brockhouse
moved by on lap three as Tracy had plenty of company right behind. Andy Hansen
was able to grab second, but didn’t have enough to make it by the leader as
Brockhouse happily took the win.
Jerry Messer’s smooth driving rewarded him with the win in the Thunder Car
Feature. "Tow Truck" Tim Wojtowicz got things going in a hurry,
before Daryl Harth moved past on lap two. Harth’s stay was a short one as
Messer didn’t mess around as he took the lead on lap five. Once in front,
Messer drove his own race and took the win over Dirk Henry and Ace Valencour.
Andy Heying wasn’t sure when he pulled off the track following the UCAR
Feature. That’s because it was too close for him to tell if he had won or
not. Adam Fronning controlled a great deal of this race, but in the final few
laps, Heying wiped away Fronning’s sizeable lead as the race wound down.
Heying made one final surge out of the final turn and that was enough to
propel him at the finish line to move ahead of Fronning to take the win.
Darin Nelson was all smiles as he emerged from his car following the TQ Stock
Car Feature. Nelson had his car working in tip top condition the entire race
as he lead nearly every lap and held off Chris Farnum to take the win.
