NASCAR Series To Visit I-94 Raceway July 5th

(SAUK CENTRE, MN) June 30th--NASCAR Elite Division’s International Truck and Engine Corporation Mid-West Series (ITEMS) rolls into action on Saturday, July 5th at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre for the July Spectacular 150. The NASCAR Touring Series features many of the top Late Model drivers from throughout the Mid-West. This will be the third trip for the series to the track and it’s first under the new International Truck and Engine Corporation sponsorship.
In the first appearance of the series (originally known as the ARTGO Challenge Series) on September 11, 1994. Steve Carlson won the 100 lap race, with soon to be NASCAR Star Matt Kenseth finishing second. The tour next stopped at I-94 in 1998 on June 26 and 27th racing under the NASCAR REMAX Challenge Series name. After being bumped back a day, due to rain, Brian Hoppe recorded his second career NASCAR Touring Series win as he made a late race pass and outran Jim Weber for the win in the 125 lap race.
This year’s race has both former winners entered along with several Minnesota drivers including two-time I-94 Raceway Late Model Track Champion Bryan Roach, rookie driver AJ Rhoads, who competes at the track during off weekends and veteran driver Tim Olson, who has raced many different touring series’ as well as recording numerous wins at the Sauk Centre track.
Spectator Gates open at 5:30, with Qualifying slated for 6, followed by racing starting at 7:00. For additional information and further race updates, refer to I-94 Raceway’s Official Web Site www.i94raceway.com.
