Woller Wins Wild Super Truck Race At I-94 Raceway

(SAUK CENTRE, MN) June 7th--Donnie Woller found the right spot go on the last lap and that paid off big for him as he won the Structural Buildings sponsored Yellow Book USA Mid-American Super Truck Feature at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre. A track record 16 trucks were on hand for the 40 lap event that saw Bill Prietzel set a new record qualifying time of 17.88 sec.
In the main event, Michael Schmitz and Tony Brewer fought for the early lead, before Larry Fitzsimmons took charge on lap 11. Meanwhile, Woller was working his way toward the front and began to pressure Fitzsimmons for the lead. A caution for oil on the track, tightened up the field and on the restart, Woller pulled alongside to take the lead on the half-way lap.
A brief rain shower dampened things and brought out a short red flag delay, but when racing resumed, Woller picked up where he left off as he started to pull away with the lead. Prietzel staged a late race charge as he fought hard with Fitzsimmons and Andy Jirik, before he captured second and began to rapidly close on Woller. Prietzel was helped by the lapped trucks of John Froelich and Art Christofferson that were running side-by-side, just in front of the leader. This allowed Prietzel to pulled in right behind Woller as they took the white flag.
The front duo tried to work through the lapped pair, making it four-wide as they entered turn three. Froelich, Christofferson and Prietzel got together and crashed into the turn three wall, while Woller ducked down low and completed the lap to take the win. The victory was the second of the year for Woller and helped maintain his lead atop the Yellow Book USA Mid-American Super Truck Point Standings.
