Kurt Davis takes Feature win in first MSA run at Fox Ridge Speedway
Friday, June 7, 2002 - by Jay Ohman
Arcadia, WI - Kurt Davis battled forward from the twelfth spot for the
Midwest Sprintcar Association feature win Friday June 7th at Fox Ridge
Speedway. It was the first trip for the MSA to the high-banked 3/8 mile
with a full house on hand to watch the action.
In the Feature, Jerry Ski took the early lead from his front row
starting spot until a lap 5 caution put Danny Schlafer on his rear
bumper. With the return to action, Danny Schlafer worked his way past
Ski and opened up an eight car lead. Defending points champion K.J.
Skelton had advanced to the second spot with Davis up to third as the
caution flew again on lap 12.
With the drop of the green, Danny Schlafer held off hard advances by
Skelton and Davis as the top three battled wheel to wheel for several
laps. Davis finally slipped past Danny Schlafer with 8 laps to go in
the 25 lap race and would go unchallenged to the checker.
Danny Schlafer would finish second, but suffered a disqualification
coming up a couple pounds light at the scale. That moved Skelton up to
the second spot, and Ski would claim third. David O'Neal and Lance
Fassbender advanced to the fourth and fifth spots. Michael Emme
finished sixth, Al Schlafer was seventh, Frank Firari eighth, John
Sauermilch advanced to the ninth spot and Scott Conger had an excellent
run to cap the top ten.
Sauermilch jumped out from his front row start spot to win the Hepfner
Race Products first heat, Danny Schlafer finished second. John Fahl
picked up his first ever MSA checker winning the second heat sponsored
by JB Enterprises, Emme followed in second.
The MPD third Heat had Dean Ehrfurth picking up the win, Keith Olejnik
right behind with a strong run. Then in the B & B Oval Track Products
Heat number 4, Davis battled by Jay Schneider to notch the victory,
Schneider finished second.
Davis took the Wisconsin PC Fast Time Award with a fast lap of 16.018
establishing an MSA track record. For all of the latest standings,
