Brand-Krause Top Features

Troy Brand and Travis Krause shared one thing in common Friday night at the Fox Ridge Speedway, feature wins. How they earned those wins is where they disagree.
Brand held off Gary Wiersgalla throughout the late stages of the super stock feature to pick up his second feature win of the season.
"All luck", said Brand. "Starting on the front row was the key." Wiersgalla tried several different lines but was unable to find the necessary traction to pull off the
win. "I knew he was there, I kept waiting for him to go by me," said Brand.
Brand jumped out to the lead from his outside row one slot. Kelly Anderson chased Brand for the first ten laps. Wiersgalla started seventh and moved into the top three on lap three. Wiersgalla then worked his way by Anderson on lap ten. Points leader, Jason Johnson was also on the move, tailing Wiersgalla through the field. The last five laps were a shootout as Brand rode the cushion and Wiersgalla dove to the bottom. Brand beat Wiersgalla at the checkered flag by a car length with Johnson closely behind. Kelly Anderson and Dan Arneson rounded out the top five.
"The pressure of starting up front in the feature is no fun. My crew threatened to put a donkey sticker on my car if I choked. Every time I start up front they threaten me with that. I had more fun last week starting 25th and moving up to eighth. A lot of people don't realize how tough it is to start up front," said Brand.
Travis Krause dominated the street stock feature. Krause also benefited from an excellent draw. Krause punched the gas at the start finish line and left Randy Bradford and the rest of the field in the dust. Krause' lead was nearly a full straightaway when the checkered flew.
"We spent the whole week in the garage getting the car ready. We put a new set-up together, got out the scales, even put new tires on, said Krause. Luck also played a little part in Krause's fortune. "We broke the right front A-frame on the third lap, but it never bothered the car a bit," said Krause.
Danny Hanson and Dan Gullickson staged a great race for runner-up honors with Hanson prevailing. Darryl Foegen was fourth followed by Bradford.
Two nights, two wins, Lance Matthees fresh off Thursday's Thunderbird Open win picked up his first feature win of the season at the speedway. Troubled by motor problems earlier in the season, the Winona hotshoe seems to have things in order.
Matthees led the entire 25 laps. Steve Isenberg and Keith Foss both tried to track down the veteran dirt campaigner to no avail. Foss slipped by Isenberg on lap eight but was unable to catch Matthees.
Pat Doar charged from the back of the field to finish fourth. Doar had left the track after an early spin. Doar used both racing grooves to move back into the top five. Foss had his best finish of the season placing second in front of Isenberg. Rookie Mark Teske was fifth.
Eric Pember led start to finish in the 25 lap modified feature. Pember, like the other three winners, started on the outside of row one. The race was one lap old when Bob Timm spun his mount in turn one and was sent to the back of the pack. Pember quickly jumped of front with first John Doelle and the Karl Fenske pursuing.
Timm stuck his racer on the cushion and rejoined the top five at lap 12. Timm then picked off Doelle and a few laps later passed Fenske for second. Time ran out on the Winona pilot as Pember crossed the finish line five car lengths in front of Timm. Feanske ran a close third, Doelle had a modified best of fourth and Bruce Angst closed in fifth.
Next week there will be two nights of racing action. A regular event will be held Friday night. Saturday night, races will start at 6:30 with an increased payoff in all four racing divisions. A fireworks display is planned after the races on Saturday night.
