September 15, 2002
Plymouth, WI - On a cool night for racing, the action was hot for
the last night of racing. Plymouth’s Tim Melis was crowned the EWSC Winged Super
Modified Track Champion. Dan Dippel, Plymouth, took home the bragging rights for the
Limited Late Models. The Super Stock Track Championship was claimed by Plymouth’s
Brian Gilles and Jeremy Sauter, Sheboygan Falls, collected the trophy for the All
American Mighty 4’s.
Manitowoc’s Kris Hansen took the lead from the pole of the 40 lap Winged Super
Modified A-Main. The field was slowed down on lap 2 for the ride of Kewaskum’s
Donny Goeden, who was filling in for the absent Billy Kreutz. On the restart, points
leader, Melis, pulled into the infield and was retired for the night.
At the drop of the green, Hansen continued to pace the pack for one circuit. Billy
Hafemann, Cedar Grove, took control of the race on lap three. By lap 10, Hafemann
encountered lapped traffic.
The field was slowed down again on lap 11 for the car of West Bend’s Tony
Wondra spinning on the backstretch. By lap 19, Hafemann had encountered lapped traffic
once again.
On lap 30, Barry Maas, Cascade, and Hafemann were running wing to wing.
Hafemann would not surrender the lead easily. On lap 37, Maas passed Hafemann to
take home the checkers. Chasing Maas to the line was Hafemann, Milwaukee’s Pete
Ostrowski, Ben Schmidt, Cedar Grove, and West Bend’s Paul Pokorski.
Fast time was set by Goeden and the Tuschl Septic Systems Hard Charger Award
went to Ostrowski for passing 8 cars.
The 15 lap B-Main saw Plymouth’s Dave Deicher take the lead from the outside
pole position. By lap three, Robert Enders, Campbellsport, was reeling him in and on lap
five, Enders took the lead. Lapped traffic became a factor on lap eight, but Enders
weaved his way through it smoothly. Finishing behind Enders was Whitelaw’s Chuck
Tuschl, Butch Hafemann, Campbellsport, Waldo’s Matt VanWyk, and Tony Wondra,
West Bend.
Dave Haag took the early lead of the 30 lap Limited Late Model Feature and by
lap seven encountered lapped traffic. Back in the field, points leader Dan Dippel,
Plymouth, and Oostburg’s JJ Walvoord, seven points behind Dippel, were swapping
places. On lap 15, while trying to pass Dippel on the high side, Walvoord tagged the
frontstretch wall and went into the pits with rearend damage.
While all this action was going on back in the field, Todd Jensema, Sheboygan
Falls, took over the lead only to be slowed down on laps 17 and 24 for cars getting
together. Jensema held on to the lead through the restarts and claimed the feature win.
Crossing behind Jensema was Haag, Kohler’s Mark Zimmermann, Track Champion Dan
Dippel, and Kewaskum’s Chad Espen.
Fast time was set by JJ Walvoord and the Bob Akright Hard Charger Award went
to Dippel for passing 12 cars.
The 25 lap Super Stock feature saw Jeremy Bushman, Kiel, jump out to the early
lead. On lap eight, several cars got together bringing out the yellow flag. On the restart,
Sheboygan’s Brian Goetsch spun and got caught up on an infield tire.
Bushman continued to lead the field until lap 17 when he lost a tire and handed
the lead over to Brian Genske, Sheboygan Falls.
Finishing behind Genske was Doug Teunissen, Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan’s
Bob Duncan, Mark Scholten, Oostburg, and Kiel’s Dean Horneck.
Fast time and the Hard Charger Award, for passing 14 cars, were both claimed by Teunissen.
Mike Humphrey took the lead of the Super Stock Semi-Feature and hung on
through several cautions. The yellow came out on lap two when Tony Miller lost a wheel,
on lap six for the car of Sheboygan’s Tony Ehaney stopping in turn one, on lap seven for
Dave Holm, Kewaskum, getting hung up on an infield tire, on lap eight for debris on the
track, and for the last time on lap nine for the car of Jeremy Sauter, Sheboygan Falls,
spinning. With the time limit now being reached, the race went green, white, checkered.
Humphrey took home the trophy followed by Kiel’s Josh Gierke, Dave Theobald,
Sheboygan Falls, Holm, and Sauter.
The All American Mighty 4 feature saw Sheboygan’s Jeremy Goetsch take the
lead. On lap four, Larry Palm stopped in turn three. Once again, the caution came out on
the next circuit for the car of race leader Goetsch spinning in turn four, handing the lead
over to Tyler Elias, Plymouth.
The caution came out once again for cars spinning in turn four. On the restart,
Elias lost a tire and turned the lead over to Kiel’s Chris Blanke. Blanke held the lead for
two laps until he got loose and turned it over to Tim Sauter, Plymouth. The race now
reached the time limit and the white flag flew. Sauter held on for the win in front of
Blanke, Joe Krueger, Sheboygan’s Tammy Dickmann, and Jamie Gauger, Sheboygan.
Congratulations to all drivers and thanks for a great year.
