Luxemburg, WI – EWSC Winged Super Modifieds made their first appearance to the Luxemburg Speedway in several years. KenJay Fiedler, Sheboygan Falls, took home the checkered flag in the 30 lap A-Main. West Bend’s Paul Pokorski worked his way up to second, from his 15th place starting position, to take over the Winged Super Modified points lead.

Mayhem broke out on the start of the A-Main in turn three when the rides of approximately 12 drivers tangled on the hard, dry track. Most of them were able to continue, with only a few retiring to the pits for the night. On the restart, Craig Perko, Plymouth, took the lead until he bobbled in turn four on lap one. That’s when Fiedler made his move to take control of the race.

The pack was slowed down on the next circuit for the car of Oostburg’s Ben Schmidt that stalled in turn two. After getting the cars in order, Fiedler set the pace in front of Perko, Billy Hafemann, Cedar Grove, Manitowoc’s Kris Hansen, and Billy Kreutz, Kiel.

The yellow came out once again on lap four for West Bend’s Tony Wondra having mechanical problems in turn three. Fiedler again set the pace and on lap 13 was making his way through lapped traffic.

Points leader, Tim Melis, Plymouth, also had mechanical problems and spent a majority of the race in the pits while Pokorski was charging his way to the front. By lap 23, Pokorski was on the heels of Fiedler only to run out of laps.

Finishing behind Fiedler was Pokorski, Campbellsport’s Bob Enders, Perko, and Hansen. Perko and Enders failed to scale after the race and are unofficially disqualified, according to Bob Brion, EWSC President. According to the rule books section regarding violations found on page 12, item F, “in the case a car is disqualified from the qualifying or race finish, the remainder of the cars will not bump up to fill positions”. Therefore, no one moved up or benefits from the disqualification.

The 15 lap B-Main saw John Schrafnagel, Lomira, spin on the start in turn four. On the restart, Wondra took the lead only to be slowed down by chaos on lap two. Several cars made contact in turn one with a couple going to the pits for the remainder of the night.

On lap five, Matt VanWyk, Sheboygan Falls, took the lead from Wondra and met lapped traffic on lap nine. Melis was making his way to the front and on lap 11 he took the lead. Shortly after he took the lead, the caution came out for the cars of Whitelaw’s Chuck Tuschl and VanWyk for coming in contact with the infield tires. Both cars were taken off on the hook. With the time limit now being reached, the race went green, white, checkered. Melis held on to the lead to take win in front of Wondra, Pokorski, Gary Laack, Glenbeulah, and Slinger’s Tom Johnson.

Racing resumes at the Sheboygan County Fair Park next Saturday, August 24, with qualifying set to begin at 5:45 and racing to follow. This will also be autograph night, so plan on visiting the pits after the races to get the drivers autographs.
