On a hot and humid night for racing, Tim Melis, Plymouth, won the 30 lap Winged Super Modified A-Main. Kewaskum’s Chad Espen took home the checkers in the 25 lap LLM feature and Mark Scholten, Oostburg, won the 25 lap Super Stock feature. Duane “Flames” Dippel claimed his third All American Mighty 4 victory. WKTT 98.1 FM sponsored the night at the races.

On the start of the 30 lap Winged Super Modified A-Main, the cars of KenJay Fiedler, Sheboygan Falls, Campbellsport’s Butch Hafemann, Billy Kreutz, Kiel, and Cascade’s Barry Maas got together in turn two to bring out the yellow flag. Kreutz retired to the pits for the night while the others were able to continue.

On the restart, Paul Pokorski, West Bend, took the lead from the pole only to be slowed down on lap three for the rides of Oostburg’s Brian Portschy and Dave Deicher, Plymouth getting in an altercation in turn two.

Pokorski set the pace until the yellow flew again on lap seven for the car of West Bend’s Tony Wondra having mechanical problems on the front stretch.

After a few more circuits, the pack was slowed on lap 12 for Maas losing control and on lap 15 for Gary Laack, Glenbeulah and Cedar Grove’s Billy Hafemann getting tangled.

On lap 20, points leader Melis took the lead from Pokorski and encountered lapped traffic on lap 23. Melis went to victory lane followed by Ben Schmidt, Oostburg, Pokorski, Milwaukee’s Pete Ostrowski (driving for Leroy Ostrowski), and Donny Goeden, Kewaskum, (substituting for Kris Hansen, Manitowoc).

Fast time was set by Kreutz and the Tuschl Septic Systems Hard Charger Award was claimed by Plymouth’s Tim McMullen for passing 9 cars.

The 15 lap B-Main went green to checkered. Goeden took the lead and on lap six was weaving through lapped traffic. While Fiedler was trying to make his way through the traffic, Goeden was pulling away. Chasing Goeden to the line was Fiedler, Bob Brion, Plymouth, McMullen, and Wondra.

Kewaskum’s Chad Espen pulled out to the lead in the 25-lap LLM feature. By lap six, Espen was in lapped traffic. The yellow flag came out on lap nine for cars getting together and again on lap 12 for the flipping car of Greg Herr.

Espen paced the field through three more cautions on laps 14, 15, and 21. With the time limit now being reached, the race went green, white, checkered.

Espen crossed the line ahead of Kohler’s Mark Zimmermann, Rick Thompson, Campbellsport, Plymouth’s Dan Dippel, and Jim Schmidt, Cleveland.

Fast time was claimed by JJ Walvoord, Oostburg and the Bob Akright Memorial Hard Charger Award went to Dippel for passing 10 cars.

The 20-lap Super Stock feature saw Kiel’s Ben Schmidt take the lead until he spun on lap six, bringing out the caution and handing the lead over to Doug Teunissen, Sheboygan Falls. Teunissen held on to the lead for one lap when Oostburg’s charging Mark Scholten took the reins. The yellow flag came out again on lap eight for cars getting together. Scholten held on for the win in front of Steve Schad, Cleveland, Elkhart Lake’s Bradley Ruh, Brian Genske, Sheboygan Falls, and Oostburg’s Jim Bailey.

Fast time was claimed by Brian Gilles, Plymouth and the Hard Charger Award went to Ruh for passing 11 cars.

The 15-lap Super Stock semi-feature was a race marred with many cautions causing the race to consist of only 7 laps. Hingham’s Terry McCoy took the lead until the caution flag came out on lap one for the cars of Tony Miller, Random Lake, and Sheboygan’s Damrow’s getting together.

On the restart, Dan Holm, Port Washington, and Dave Theobald, Sheboygan Falls, tangled. Lap three saw Elhkart Lake’s Paul Dirks and Jamie Theobald, Sheboygan, get together and the final caution came on lap five for the car of Holm losing his drive shaft. With the time limit now reached, the race went green, white, checkered. McCoy went on to win followed by Sheboygan’s Jeff Leonhard, Dean Horneck, Kiel, Random Lake’s Tony Miller, and Adam/Cory Brasser, Plymouth.

The All American Mighty 4’s was also a green to checkered race. Plymouth’s Duane Dippel took the lead and never looked back. Jason Voss, Glenbeulah, was charging hard but could not catch Dippel. Finishing behind Dippel was Voss, Jeremy Sauter, Sheboygan Falls, Plymouth’s Tim Sauter, and Randy Ostermann, Jr., Howards Grove.

Next Friday, August 16, 2002, the Winged Super Modifieds travel to Luxemburg for a points show. Hot lapping begins at 6:00 PM with racing to start at 7:00 PM. The LLM travel to Chilton for a points show also. Racing begins at 7:00 PM.
