One could say that Kris Hansen, Manitowoc, had a perfect night at the races.
After winning his heat, he held on to claim his first career EWSC Winged Super Modified A-Main.
Sheboygan's Limited Late Model pilot, Larry Berg, also claimed his first career feature victory. Dale Damrow,
Sheboygan, took home the Super Stock feature, while Fond du Lac's Brian Stern won the All-American Mighty
4's. The visiting MSA 360 sprint cars saw Doug Schenck, Madison, claim the checkers. The race night was
sponsored by Sargento.
In a cautionless race, Kris Hansen took the lead from the pole of the Winged Super Modified A-Main. By lap
20 he was weaving his way through lapped traffic to the checkers while holding off hard charges from
Whitelaw's ChuckTuschl, Billy Kreutz, Kiel, West Bend's Paul Pokorski, and Gary Laack, Glenbeulah.
The Tuschl Septic Systems Hard Charger Award was claimed by Kreutz for passing 16 cars.
The 15 lap B-Main saw Plymouth's Tim Melis jump out to the lead and by lap 3 he was in lapped traffic. The
field was slowed down on the start and on lap 7 due to cars spinning. On lap 10, the yellow cane out once
again for a stalled car on the backstretch. With the time limit now reached, the race went green, white,
checkered. Crossing behind Melis was Leroy Ostrowski, Milwaukee, KenJay Fiedler, Sheboygan Falls,
Plymouth's Tim McMullen, and Barry Maas, Cascade.
In the 25-lap Limited Late Model feature, rookie Larry Berg, Sheboygan, found himself in the lead. On lap
24, the caution came out for the cars of Cedar Grove's Charlie Schmidt, Jim Schmidt, Cleveland, and
Plymouth's Dan Dippel getting together. Berg took home the victory followed by Henry Dickmann and Richard
Hed, both of Sheboygan,John Scharenbroch, Sheboygan Falls, and Oostburg's Nate Winkel.
The Bob Akright Memorial Hard Charger Award went to Don Singer, Waldo, for passing 6 cars.
Keith Borth, Sheboygan, pulled out to the lead in the LLM semi-feature. The only caution of the race came
on lap 9 for the ride of Greg Herr, Sheboygan, spinning in turn 4. Borth was chased to the finish by Singer, J.
Schmidt, Plymouth's Matt Buckman, and Herr.
Dale Damrow, Sheboygan, pulled out to the lead in the 20 lap Super Stock feature. Cautions on laps 8 and
15 brought out the yellow flag. On lap 18, Kiel's Ben Schmidt was giving Damrow a run for his money as the
two were door to door. Damrow held on, after Schmidt bobbled a little, to finish ahead of Brian Kaat,
Plymouth, Schmidt, and Plymouth's Brian Gilles.
The Hard Charger Award went to Oostburg's Jim Bailey and Doug Teunissen, Sheboygan Falls, for passing
9 cars each.
The 15 lap semi-feature started with the drop of the green flag followed by the yellow for the car of
Oostburg's Luke Scholten losing his tire. On the restart, Kyle Odekirk, Plymouth, lead from green to
checkered. Crossing behind Odekirk was Bailey, Teunissen, Sheboygan's Steve Goetsch, and Bradley Ruh,
Elkhart Lake.
Fod du Lac's Brian Stern led the cautionless 20 lap All-American Mighty 4 feature. Stern encountered
lapped traffic on lap 3 but smoothly maneuvered around the track to take home the victory. Crossing behind
Stern was Jeremy Sauter, Sheboygan Falls, Plymouth's Jonathan Dippel, Randy Ostermann, Jr., Howards
Grove, and Plymouth's Tim Sauter.
The MSA 360 sprint cars made their second appearance to the track this year. John Fahl, Milwaukee,
paced the pack only to be slowed down on lap1 for the car of Harland's Troy Hepfner spinning. After getting
things back underway, Fahl was in lapped traffic on lap 10. Hounding Fahl was Doug Schenck, Madison,
Sussex's Chris Wiser, and KJ Skelton, Cascade. Schenck took control of the reins on lap 23 to take the win.
Finishing behind Schenck was Fahl, Wiser, Skelton, and Sheboygan's John Sauermilch.
The first 15 lap B-Main saw one caution after Plymouth's Craig Gravatt took the lead. The caution came on
lap 3 for KenJay Fiedler, Sheboygan Falls, spinning in turn 2. On lap 6, Cascade's Paul Geib took the lead
and didn't look back. Chasing Geib to the line was Gravatt, Frank Firari, Lowell, and Waupan's Lloyd Dykstra.
The second 15 lap B-Main saw Dan Uttech, Kenosha, take the lead until lap 4 when Manitowoc's Michael
Emme took over control. On lap 13, Emme found himself in lapped traffic and went on to take home the
checkered flag followed by Donny Goeden, Kewaskum, Kurt Davis, West Allis, and Glenbeulah's CJ Wagner.
Racing resumes next Saturday night, July 20, at the Sheboygan County Fair Park with qualifying at 5:45 and
racing to follow. The night will see the Legends of EWSC and MSC Night for all divisions.
