Plymouth, WI
Hot, humid weather made for a fast qualifying track, causing all track records to
be broke. The returning Pete Ostrowski, Milwaukee, made his presence known with a last lap pass on West
Bend's Paul Pokorski to win the Winged Super Modified A-Main. Duane Dippel, Plymouth, claimed his first
career Mighty 4 victory.
Pole-sitter Pokorski took the early lead in the Winged Super Modified A-Main only to be slowed down on
lap 1 for the cars of Glenbeulah's Craig Perko and Chuck Tuschl, Whitelaw, getting together. By lap 13,
Pokorski was making his was through lapped traffic.
With 10 laps to go, the hard charging Ostrowski went to the high side. On the last lap, Pokorski and
Ostrowski were wing to wing down the backstretch with Ostrowski making his move in turn 4. Crossing the line
behind Ostrowski was Pokorski, Cascade's Barry Maas, Tim Melis, and Dave Deicher, both of Plymouth.
A new track record of 13.387 seconds was set by Melis and the Tuschl Septic Systems Hard Charger
Award was claimed by Ostrowski for passing 10 cars.
The 15 lap B-Main saw Perko take the lead and go flag to flag while encountering lapped traffic by lap 9.
Chasing Perko to the line was Campbellsport's Butch Hafemann, Tuschl, and Dennis Klumb, Grafton.
Keith Borth, Sheboygan, led the Limited Late Model feature until he spun on lap 2 surrendering the lead
to Kewaskum's Chad Espen.
The caution flag flew on lap 6 for debris on the track. On lap 17, Espen was maneuvering his way through
lapped traffic only to be slowed down for the car of Richard Hed, Sheboygan Falls, spinning in turn 3. Espen
took home the checkered flag followed by Plymouth's Scott Haugstad, Henry Dickmann, Sheboygan, and
Plymouth's Dan Dippel.
Setting the Limited Late Model new track record at 15.376 seconds was Charlie Schmidt, Cedar Grove,
and the Bob Akright Memorial Hard Charger Award went to Dippel for passing 12 cars.
John Scharenbroch, Sheboygan Falls, found himself leading the 10 lap Limited Late Model semi-feature
from start to finish. Trailing behind Scharenbroch was Plymouth's Matt Buckman, Terry Goetsch, and Larry
Berg, both of Sheboygan.
The Super Stock feature saw Sheboygan's Chad Ninmer take the lead until lap 8 when John Dirks, Elkhart
Lake, found himself leading the pack.
The only caution of the race came on lap 13 for the stalled car of Dave Theobald, Sheboygan Falls. Dirks
held the lead for the rest of the race followed by Don Kulow, Brian Gilles, and Brian Kaat, all from Plymouth.
A new Super Stock track record was claimed by Brian Genske with a lap of 16.938 seconds and the Hard
Charger Award went to Brian Gilles for passing 12 cars.
Sheboygan's Mike TeStroete grabbed the lead in the 15 lap Super Stock semi-feature until lap 4 when he
spun and handed control over to Paul Dirks, Elkhart Lake.
The field was slowed down for Kewaskum's Dave Holm, who spun on the frontstretch and again on lap 9 for Josh Gierke, Kiel, spinning in turn 4.
On lap 13, Oostburg's Mark Scholten took the lead and never looked back. Finishing behind Scholten was
Brian Goetsch, Sheboygan, Paul Perronne and Gierke, both of Plymouth.
Un the 20 lap All American Mighty 4's, Jason Voss, Glenbeulah, took the early lead. The field was slowed
down on lap 2 for mechanical problems for Marcus Wenzel . On lap 4, Voss surrendered to the pits giving the
lead to Plymouth's Joe Miller/Tyler Elias for 1 circuit. On lap 5, Duane Dippel, Plymouth, passed Miller/Elias
for the lead and took home his first EWSC Mighty 4 career checkered flag.
Spyder Akright, Sheboygan Falls, took the early lead in the Legends feature race. The yellow flag was
brought out on lap 4 for a spin in turn 4. Eric Barth went on to win followed by Oostburg's Kevin Brill, Greg
Hartlaub, Sheboygan Falls, and Akright.
Racing resumes Saturday, July 6, with the Pat Rand Memorial Mid-Season Championships sponsored by
Sheboygan Chevrolet. Qualifying is set to begin at 5:45 with racing to follow.
