Rain Cancels Season Finale

Although officials from the IRA and the DCFS made every attempt to get the program underway, Mother Nature had other plans. Rain forced the cancellation of the final race of the 2002 season. Plenty of fans and drivers waited until the final call was made late in the afternoon. Jay Schraufnagel picked up his fourth straight modified track championship. Steve Seitz also claimed his fourth straight championship in the DCRA Pure Stock division. Going into the final race in the IMCA Hobby Stock class, Jimmy Scanlon and Tony Schlei were tied for the points lead. With the rain out, officials went to the tie breaker system to determine a champion. Tony Schlei became the winner by having had one more feature win than Scanlon. Schlei also backed up his state championship from last year.
