Strasser Returns To Victory Lane

A full night of racing was completed as the forecasted thunderstorms stayed just to the south of the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway Saturday night. It was Elbert and Pfitzinger Law Offices night that saw the triumphant return of Sammy Strasser in his #24 modified. It would be Strasser's first win since his return after a hiatus from racing. Jeremy Christians fought hard for his fourth straight win in the IMCA Stock class. Nate Schepp took the win by a couple feet over Steve Seitz in the pure stock race and Jimmy Scanlon easily took the checkers in the IMCA Hobby Stock race. At intermission the Schools Out Celebration sponsored by the Dodge County 4-H Leaders Association and CHD Associates took place. Congratulations to the tire roll winners and all of the coloring contest winners.

The IMCA Stock division rolled out first behind the Homan Auto Sales pace truck. Eventual winner Jeremy Christians took the lead on lap 4 but would have company throughout the race. Initially John Stanton stayed close but after a caution it was Rob Schmid who stayed on his bumper the whole way. Stanton and Brandon Czarapata ran side by side trading paint for third for most of the race. Roger Johnson sat right behind in fifth waiting for the pass to be made. With third and fourth running side by side, the front two slowly pulled away from the field. On the white flag lap, Schmid was anticipating one last chance to take the lead when his suspension broke relegating him to a sixth place finish. Christians went on to take his fourth win in a row with Stanton and Czarapata taking second and third.

In IMCA Modified action Sammy Strasser took the lead from Rob Olson when Olson encountered mechanical problems. Strasser would also benefit from cars racing side by side behind him and slowly built his lead. Kelly Brown and Dennis Schultz traded positions nearly every lap with Jay Schraufnagel right behind. For the stock cars the bottom of the track was too slick to race on but the setup on Strasser's modified was right on as he motored along on the bottom and pulled away from second and third. Strasser went on to claim the victory with Brown getting second over Schultz by mere inches.

At no time during the pure stock feature did the leader have it easy. Doug Brabant led early with Jason Behring along side. When Branant's rearend broke Behring assumed the lead but was hounded by Steve Sietz. After a caution, Nate Schepp took the lead but had his hands full with both Behring and Seitz. For the final seven laps Seitz and Schepp traded the lead with Behring right behind in third. On the final lap Schepp held a slight advantage and carried it to a win over Seitz by a half car length.

In the IMCA Hobby Stock feature Pleasant Prairie's Jimmy Scanlon led from the outset over Tony Schlei and never looked back. Although cars raced for positions behind him, Scanlon was never pressured on the big half mile and took the checkered flag for his first win.

On the schedule for next week is a regular night of racing plus the Nostalgic Racers special. Racers from the speedways past once again return to the track for their own special feature.
