August 22, 2002
CRANDON, WI -- Fans won't want to miss this upcoming Labor Day Weekend, August 30-September 1, as Crandon International Off-Road Raceway unleashes a "Triple-Header"! Three giant days of off-road entertainment and racing! The X-treme Thunderfest has been expanded with additional performers this year.
First up will be the Friday Night X-treme Thunderfest, August 30 at 7:30 p.m., sponsored by Forest County Potawatomi. The special Friday Night show will feature high-flying Moto-X drivers, five monster truck performances, Figure 8 stock car racing, motorcycle daredevils and more. Returning to thrill the crowd will be Dan Evans, Cadillac, MI, and his powerful all-new "Destroyer" monster truck. Evans runs on the national monster truck circuit and it was his first ever appearance at Crandon last year. "What a great and enthusiastic crowd," said Evans. "We loved it in Crandon and look forward to a monster show this year," he said. He will be joined by the "Devastator" monster truck driven by Mark Schroeder, Milwaukee, WI. Also appearing will be the well-known "American Dream" monster truck driven by Dave Turpen. Sponsored by Amsoil, Turpen is the "Donut King" and will bring the Pony Express Monster Car, also part of his show.
Soaring into Crandon on high-flying moto-cross machines is the Triple X Moto-X team from Illinois. The three riders launch themselves into the stratosphere and it is the first time for Moto-X action to be featured in the Crandon area.
Also on tap for the Thunderfest will be the return of the "Human Bomb" -- Canadian motorcyclist Serge Beaulieu. Famous not only for his explosive "Human Bomb" act, Beaulieu has added a high speed jump through a "Ring of Fire". Local stock car drivers from in and around the Crandon area will also race a "Figure 8 Shootout" in front of the crowd. These "Bomber" and "Stinger" classes feature local racers from TNT Speedway.
The Forest County Potawatomi Friday Night X-treme Thunderfest is the prelude to the 2002 BorgWarner World Championship Off-Road Races on Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1. Included in the weekend are the Trail Master Time Trials for the annual BorgWarner Shootout and the $100,000 BorgWarner Cup. The Time Trials begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 30.
On Saturday, Championship Off-Road Racing Lucas Oil Series trucks and buggies take to the track for the final points racing of the season. For the first time in years, the off-road racing season ends where it should: At the Crandon World Championships with everything on the line. Most important, racers will vie for coveted Crandon annual World Championship titles on Saturday. Other classes competing for World Championships will be Classix (American Sedans), Formula 4x4 trucks, among others. A huge turnout of Enduro Trucks and the popular GOBs racers are also expected. The 8th annual BorgWarner Shootout is scheduled for Sunday, September 1 at 4 p.m.
