The Powercom Speed Zone 2003 Schedule
As we all settle in for a long winter’s nap… (like that’s going to happen), the Team Leaders from of our Tech & Inspection, Competition, Flagging, Scoring and Management have been diligently reviewing all of the rules, regulations, suggestions and standard procedures. The green flag has been given on releasing the schedule and the 2003 revision of rules for all participating classes for the both the Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam and the Powercom Speed Zone in Oshkosh.
While no major changes have taken place, the majority of changes being implemented for 2003 racing season, were initially introduced and suggested in the rules prior to the 2002 racing season.
We feel we have put together one of the most exciting schedule of events, along with the classes of participants for the upcoming 2003-racing season at the Raceway at Powercom Park and the Powercom Speed Zone.
One most important change in our established Saturday night program will be our start time. We have moved our race start time back to 7:00 p.m. for the 2003-racing season. This will not only help in our track preparations, but will also save on the quality and condition of the track during our regularly scheduled events.
Modifieds, Stocks, and INEX Legends, along with the Karavan Trailers’ Dirt Devils, will headline the classes participating on regularly scheduled Saturday night event, As we enter our fourth season of racing at the Raceway at Powercom Park, the Grand National Division will be making their debut on the May 10th opener. These five divisions will be on the most part, the featured weekly divisions on the roster, with several other divisions making special event appearances throughout the year.
Another change in the weekly venue, will affect the Karavan Trailer Dirt Devils and Hobby Stocks. A guaranteed weekly purse that is based on car count will be a set standard for each division at both facilities.
The Hobby Stocks and Team Cruisers from the Powercom Speed Zone in Oshkosh and surrounding area tracks will also make scheduled appearances throughout 2003 season at Powercom Park.
Special events throughout our season will see the return of the W.o.O. on July 10th, and we are presently working on making this year’s event bigger and more exciting in 2003. This year’s event will take place on a Thursday evening and our regular racing program will resume on the following Saturday, July 12, with a special ticket admission that will allow any adult to purchase a ticket for the following Saturday’s regularly scheduled event for only HALF-PRICE. This will only be in effect for the specified date of July 12th at the Raceway at Powercom Park.
The ever-popular IRA Sprints are also on the line-up of events for the 2003 racing schedule, making several appearances during the season. They start out the season with an IRA Challenge on April 12th with a twilight program, teaming up with the UMP/WISSOTA Late Models, and will return for another twilight, thunder-pounding event on May 26th, Memorial Day afternoon. On July 10th they again will offer a challenge to the W.o.O.Outlaws special event, and return on August 23rd for their final appearance during the 2003 season with an IRA/Knoxville Challenge.
A special USAC Midget/USAC Non-Winged Sprint event is scheduled for the first Saturday of May 3rd, one week prior to our regular season opener. This event puts the icing on our full menu of events for what will be an exciting 2003 racing season at the Raceway at Powercom Park, Beaver Dam.
The Powercom Speed Zone in Oshkosh will also maintain a regularly, schedule of participating classes during the 2003 racing season. Our Monster Truck and Friday Night Mayhem events and dates for the 2003 season have not been determined at this time.
Modifieds, Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Dirt Devils will be the headliners on a regular weekly scheduled Tuesday night event, with the enhancement of the Grand National Division, making this a “Five Star” event as we enter our second season at the “Zone”.
The Powercom Speed Zone will also have a rotation of several classes during weekly events. Making their premier debut at the “Zone” for the 2003 season will be the every popular Team Cruisers and the thrilling Figure 8’s!! The possibility of other featured classes throughout the year will be announced at a later date.
The MSA 360 Sprints will be making their encore appearance during the 2003-racing season for two special events. The first being at the kick-off of the 2003 Winnebego County fair on Tuesday evening July 15th. Their return will be on August 16th, with a special Saturday evening show. They’ll be teamed with several of our regularly scheduled classes that will make this one special event you won’t want to miss.
Two other divisions making a return performance for the 2003- racing season will be the IRA Sprints and the UMP/WISSOTA Late Models. The Late Models make their first appearance on Tuesday, June 17th, and returning for a special, Monday afternoon, twilight show on Labor Day September 1st.
At the conclusion of our 2003 season, our Coca-Cola Classic on Friday September 19th and Saturday September 20th will be the final scheduled event. Special announcements will be made toward the end of the season pertaining to classes participating in this exciting, two-day schedule of events.
With all this in mind, we are also hosting our first ever USSA Prostar Series Oval and Snowcross show on February 1st and 2nd 2003. We have businesses from surrounding areas marketing and displaying their products in facility buildings and on the fairgrounds. We will have heated restrooms for comfortable availability, and plenty of hot food to enjoy during these exciting events. We are featuring both Ice Oval and Snocross, professional and amateur racing during this two-day action packed event!
