Groelle’s Luck Runs Out At 141 Speedway
In Victory lane, following the 35 Lap Mid American feature event ,
Manitowoc’s Travis Groelle said he had a second place car at best and said
he just ‘got lucky’. The luck came in the form of leader Mike ‘Ozzie”
Oswald having trouble clearing the lapped car of Dave Marshall, contact ensued
and a hole opened for an instant. Groelle seized the moment and squeezed
between the two as the crowd rose to their feet with just 3 laps remaining in
the contest. Whitelaw’s Darryl Gerke passed Ozzie on the last lap for
second. Fourth and Fifth went respectively to Manitowoc’s Jimbo Schleis and
Mishicot ’s Tom Melichar. Unfortunately Groelle’s luck ran out
during technical inspection, as an out of specification carburetor cost him
the victory and handed both win and the points lead to Gerke.
In the mini stock division Racin’ Jason Novak took advantage of his second
row starting spot and found his way to the front in just 3 short laps and was
never seriously challenged.
The Super Stocks put on there typical you push me, I push you back affairs,
and when it was all over it was Denmark’s Todd Welsing holding off the
fastest car on the track, Manitowoc’s Tim Conard. Early leader Randy
Rahn (Brillion) was fighting an extremely loose racecar and after 6 laps in
the front slid back as far as 8th, before rebounding to a fifth place finish.
Greg Thompson (Denmark) brought his Chevrolet El Camino home in the 3rd spot
and Green Bay’s Peter Kumbalek lead several laps mid race, but ultimately
got shuffled back to 4th.
The sport 4 division rounded out the evening, and Jake Fuller lead 17 of the
25 circuits, including the most important one. Early pressure from Gary
Novitski, including a few laps were Novitski lead from the outside lane
couldn’t rattle Jakes cage and he smoothly held on to the top spot.
Next up at 141 is a WILMRA sanctioned Lawn Mower racing event set for 2 PM on
May 12th. Stock cars return to weekly competition May 26th. For a complete
