Tire Controversy At 141 Speedway

Maribel, WI In preparation for this Saturday night’s Spring Fling Opener, teams have been testing, tuning and fine tuning their machines.  50 cars took to the track in 4 days of practice and Menchalville’s Monte Strouf, in a Mid American stock car, was the fastest in early preseason practices at the paved quarter mile.  His mark of 12.377 was slower than his all-time record of 12.059, but the track has yet to be “seasoned” with the layers of rubber that build up and provide extra grip.

In the final preseason practice session, Denmark’s Crystal Koenig bolted on a set of Goodyear tires, optional this year, and the mark dropped to 12.331. Prior to this year, the Goodyear tire was used exclusively in the Super Stock division and the Mid Americans used a Hoosier racing tire.  Some drivers that graduated to the premier Mid Americans, missed their old rubber and lobbied during the off season for a “choice”.  There is no doubt that the racers will make the switch if an advantage is to be had.  Just like Nascar in 1994, the tire war is on.  See Round 1 this Saturday night. Qualifying will begin at 5 p.m.  Then there will be an On Track Autograph Session at 6 p.m.  and racing at 7 pm!  Catch all the latest 141 Speedway racing news by listing to 141 Live on Manitowoc’s WCUB – AM 980 Saturday nights from 6 to 6:30 p.m. or check the website www.141speedway.com
