Meulemans Wins New Years Enduro At 141 Speedway

Francis Creek - Sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures greeted fans on
New Years Day for the first Stock Car race of the year at 141 Speedway at
Francis Creek. A record 89 entries took to the track for the 300 lap contest.
Dave Beyer started on the pole and led at the drop of the green with Mark
Minecheski and Terry Kust close behind. They stayed just that way until lap 68
when a backmarker spun on the backstretch and collected Minecheski knocking
him out of the race.
At lap 100 there was a mandatory caution for the drivers to gas up and change
tires and Beyer was first out of the pits followed by Kust. But on lap 143
Kust was caught up in a crash and Kust had to pit one lap later handing the
lead to Lee Lielpikowski.
“Lee Kip” held the lead until lap 182 but dropped out with a flat giving
the lead to Jeff Meulemans who led to the 200 lap break.
After the restart, Meulemans appeared to be cruising to the win when Keith
Graper, who was running second, lost a tire on lap 250. During the red flag
period Meulemans drove to the pits which is a rule violation and was penalized
60 seconds. When he returned to the track he was second, just one second
behind the new leader Todd Hebel.
Hebel held on for only three laps though as Meulemans retook the point and
again seemed headed for victory. Suddenly, three laps from the end, a car lost
a wheel bringing out the red flag again and stopping the race. Meulemans car
began smoking at idle and Hebel was only one lap down and ready to pounce.
When the Green flag dropped again, it was only for a lap as another car threw
a wheel stopping the race again! Meulemans would hold it together for the last
two laps and took the win over Hebel who stayed one lap down in second. Jeremy
Czarapata was third with Terry Kust and Michael Marcus rounded out the top
five.
Next race at 141 will be the April Fools Enduro scheduled for April 1st 2007.
