Kust Wins Labor Day Enduro At 141

Francis Creek, WI - September 3, 2006 - Terry Kust survived a late charge from Duke Truttmann to win his first Tisler Salvage Compact Car Enduro race of the season Sunday night at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.

Kust pocketed the $1,000 first place prize after leading the bulk of the 300-lap event, the fifth in the six race Enduro series.

He wasted little time taking command of the first 100-lap segment, passing Dean Flaig on the fifth lap.  Kust had lapped everyone in the 68 car starting field except for two-time winner Mike Beyer, Mike Plate and Tom Ruh as they approached the first mandatory pitstop.  With two to go, Truttmann was able to pass Kust and get himself back on the lead lap.

Plate led the second segment until the 147th lap when Truttmann took the top spot for the first time.  Plate held the runner-up position until he was forced to pit just four laps short of the second mandatory pitstop at lap 200.

Coming out of the pits for the final segment, Truttmann, Kust and Beyer were lined up together for the final 100 laps.  Truttmann led the opening circuit, but Kust passed him on the 202nd lap.

He pulled away to what appeared to be a commanding lead.  With 30 laps to go, he held nearly a half lap advantage on Truttmann.  But Truttmann steadily chipped away at the cushion, eventually catching the leader with three laps to go.

The duo diced through heavy lapped traffic to the checker.  Truttmann was able to pull even several times, but could never gain the edge.  After 300 laps of action, it was Kust the winner by less than a second.

Jim Brooks ran consistently in the top five most the night, passing Beyer late in the event for third.

The race was stopped by three red flags; a blocked track, a lost wheel and Ruh’s rollover crash in the final segment.  Ruh escaped injury, but was done for the night after running in the top 20 most of the way.

Five champions will officially be crowned this Saturday, as the First National Bank will host the final point night of the 2006 season.  The evening will also feature a penny toss for the kids.  Qualifying will take to the quarter mile at 5:00PM, with the first race at 7:00PM.

The sixth and final segment in the Tisler Salvage Enduro series will be Saturday afternoon, October 28.  The annual Creepy Classic will take the green at 2:00PM.  A trailer race will also be on the afternoon card of events.
