Rookie Rodewald Wins Wayne Knowles Memorial Race At 141 Speedway
Cloudy skies didn’t deter the enthusiastic crowd on hand at 141 Speedway in
Francis Creek, WI. for the annual Wayne Knowles Memorial 50 lap race Saturday
night.
In the big feature, Don Wood of Maribel led the field to the green flag.
Crystal Koenig gave chase with Travis Rodewald running a close third.
On lap sixteen Koenig surrendered second place to Rodewald who then had to
contend with the nearly half a lap lead that Wood had built.
Meanwhile, Daryl Gerke, Jeff Tisler and Todd Mott were winding their way
through the field and, by lap 45, had moved into the top five.
Up front, Wood’s tires were starting to show wear and his brakes were
glowing red hot as he nearly drove the wheels off trying to stave off the
challenge of Rodewald. By lap 44, the pressure became too much and Rodewald
moved around on the topside to take the lead and run off to his first ever
feature win in the division.
Koenig hung on for second with Mott, Gerke and Tisler rounding out the top
five.
The 25-lap Super Stock feature started off in wild fashion as Jim Meisner lost
control of his ride before the first lap was completed bringing out the yellow
and precipitating a restart. When the green fell again, Jason Kostitchka led
the field but had to back off on lap two when the ride of Adam Pontzlaff died
in the middle of the backstretch and the caution flag waved again.
When the race got underway again Jason was still in the lead but now was being
pursued by the team cars of Tim Conard and Errol Berry. He was able to hold
them off until lap 16 when Berry powered by on the outside with Conard in tow.
They would finish in that order with Josh Sand of Mishicot third, Kostitchka
fourth and Todd Welsing fifth.
The Mini Stock division put on a stellar show going green to checker for
twenty-five laps.
Rick Kretchman led the opening laps but was quickly over taken by the Dodge of
Allen Dillon who ran away from the field and never looked back Fast qualifier
Eric Turner made his way to second with Troy Selner, Kevin Peroutka and Jason
Novak completing the top five.
Jared Anderson surprised the entire house by holding off point leader Tyler
Bauknecht for a winning margin of two one-thousandths of a second. It was
Anderson’s first feature win and went well with his earlier win in the heat
race.
The Sport 4 division had the wildest finish of the night when, with just three
laps to the finish, Dave Gauger, Sr., who was leading the race dropped water
in turn two causing the rest of the field to spin out and the caution to fly.
Gauger was sent to the pits and, on the restart, fourteen-year-old Matt
Cherney powered by in the outside groove to get his second win of the season.
Rick Lorrigan was second with Kendra Cretton, Aaron Dalton, and Bruce Sand
third through fifth.
Next week is F. Radiant and Sons night at 141 featuring stock car rides for
kids beginning at 6 PM. As always, time trials are at 5:30pm with racing at 7
sharp.
