Koehler Wins Forty Lap Feature At 141 Speedway
Nathan Wegner led the Super Stock field to the green flag for the forty lap
feature on Triple Crown night at 141 Speedway. Wegner continued to lead the
field all the way to lap 27 when Randy Nething spun in his own oil and brought
out the yellow flag.
After a quick clean-up, the race was restarted and Kraig Koehler of Francis
Creek came from the outside to take the lead. He proceeded to check out on the
pack and run away with the win. This was not only Koehler’s first win in a
Super, this was his first race ever in this class! Point leader Greg
“T-Bone” Thompson finished second with Wegner, Tim Conard and Pete
Kumbalek rounding out the top five.
The Mini-stocks ran a forty lap feature as well with David Gauger, Jr, leading
the field for the first six laps when the caution flag was displayed for
liquid on the track.
On the restart, Jordan Thiel used the outside line to pass for the lead. On
lap fourteen the caution flag came out again this time when the car driven by
Jason Wiladsen spun in turn three.
On the restart Cory Kemkes of Appleton took the lead and ran away from the
field to take the win. Point leader Kurt Naidl came home second just ahead of
Gauger, Steve Schneider and Wiladson.
In the Sport 4 division, Ashley Wertel led the field to the green flag and
battled Matt Cherney for the lead for the first seven laps. At that point
Wertel moved out to a two car advantage and appeared to be driving away from
the pack.
This continued until lap thirteen when Don Murray caught up to Wertel and
started looking to the outside for a passing lane. Wertel moved up slightly to
contest and Murray dove to the bottom and made the pass for the lead which he
never gave up.
Meantime, Bruce Sand of Two Rivers was methodically making his way to the
front of the field and was in second on the white flag lap. Both he and Murray
charged into the last set of turns and ran side by side across the finish line
with Sand winning by three one thousands of a second. Cherney was third
followed by Rachel Gauger and Rick Lorrigan.
The Wisconsin Sport Trucks were on hand for the night as a guest class with
Kyle Quella coming from the back of the pack to get the win over Scott Baker.
Josh Jeske, Dan Vixmer and Randy Yaeger completed the top five..
The Hobby Stocks finished out the night with point leader Tyler Bauknecht
winning the feature over David Gauger, Sr.. Joshua Setzer finished third.
Next week is Lorrigan Construction night at 141 with the regular Saturday
night program and a special rollover contest! Time trials are at 5pm
with racing at 7.
