Conard Tops 40 Lap Feature At 141 Speedway
Josh Sand of Mishicot set a new track record but it was Tim Conard of
Manitowoc putting on a totally dominating performance in the main event
Saturday night at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.
Conard used the outside line to come from near the back of the field picking
off one car per lap and assuming the lead.
He then proceeded to stretch his advantage and ended up winning the race by an
advantage of almost ten seconds.
Point leader Greg Thompson of Denmark managed to get to second spot ahead of
teammate Todd Welsing, Josh Sand and Bill Gast.
Todd Hebel of Branch worked his way up from a seventh place starting position
to get the win in the forty-lap event for the Mini Stocks. Kurt Naidl of
Denmark started even deeper in the field and was challenging at the end but
ran out of laps and had to settle for second place.
Chris Wellner, Troy Sellner and Jason Novak rounded out the top five.
In the Sport 4 division, Bruce Sand led the field from start to finish to pick
up his first win of the year over a charging Don Murray. Kendra Cretton
finished third.
The closest finish of the night was in the guest class; the Wisconsin Sport
Trucks from WIR.
Scott Baker appeared to be headed to the front in a big hurry when he made
contact with the truck driven by Sam Haven causing a spin and a caution flag.
Both were sent to the rear of the field.
On the restart, Kyle Quella used an inside move to assume the lead and then
staged a twelve lap battle with fast qualifier Tyler Nault.
Although Nault was faster, Quella used his position and cornering skill to
hold him off for the win. Baker came back from last place to finish a strong
third.
In the last race of the evening, Tyler Bauknecht of Reedsville got his second
win in a row in the Hobby Stock division. Mike TeStrode came home second ahead
of Mike Vranek and Joshua Setzer.
Next week it’s the “Faster Pastor” races where area church elders
compete in specially prepared cars. Last year it was one of the largest crowds
of the year and the year promises to be even bigger with a larger field of
entries.
