Welsing Wins New Years Enduro Race At 141 Speedway

Thirty six degree temperatures. Icy pavement. Strong winds. A perfect day for a three hundred lap enduro race at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek on New Years Day.

David Beyer of Two Rivers led the pack at the drop of the green flag with Todd Welsing, Frank Calabrese,  and Marty Vande Hei in hot pursuit.

Other than one red flag for debris on lap 34 the first one hundred laps were uninterrupted with Calabrese in the lead. Matt Oreskovich was running fifth but was caught up in a head on crash on the back stretch and dropped to eighteenth.

When the green flag came back on lap one hundred, Jim Brooks and Dan Brandenburg had made their way up to the lead pack and by lap 125 they were third and fifth respectively.

Calabrese ran afoul of lady luck on lap 133 when his right front tire blew and he had to pit for four laps to change it dropping him to eleventh. This allowed Todd Welsing to move to the top spot with Terry Kust trailing on the same lap.

At lap two hundred, the top two were the same with Brooks, Todd Hebel and Brandenburg rounding out the top five.

When the race resumed for the final one hundred laps, Welsing stayed conservative and out of trouble cruising to the win and one thousand dollar first prize. Brooks drove his way to second just ahead of Frank Calabrese who battled back to a very respectable fourth place finish. Matt Kittel rounded out the top five.

The next race at 141 Speedway will be on April 1, 2006. The annual “April Fools” enduro will be a three hundred lap affair starting at 2pm.

Also, the annual 141 Speedway awards banquet will be held January 21, 2006 at Fox Hills in Mishicot, WI. Cocktails at 6pm with dinner at 7pm.
