Dart Survives To Take the Checkered At 141

Cautions plagued just about every division at 141 on Computer Technology Team night at the races.

In the Mid-American Sportsman division, Mike “Ozzy” Ozwald in the 38 car led the field down to take the green flag along with the 50 of Gary Tisler.  Their battle for the lead did not last long when on lap one in turns 3 and 4, the 3 car of Travis Groelle made a three-wide move to take the top spot.  The yellow flag soon flew on lap 2 when the 64 of Darrell Gerke got into the back of the 12 of Kevin Damrow in turns 3 and 4.  Groelle restarted on the point with the B7 of Andy Casavant and the 72 of Jesse Fuller up to second and third respectively.  Groelle held of the challenge of Casavant on the high side but the B7 kept the pressure on, staying right on Groelle’s back bumper.  While the battle for the lead was taking place, a good battle for the third position began to take place between the 7 of Dennis Rabas and the 72 of Fuller however, the caution flag would fly once again on lap 11 when the 84 of Bret Piontek made contact with the 8 of Monte Strouf, sending him around on the front strech.  Groelle restarted on the pint with Rabas on the outside.  Rabas jumped out to an early lead but on lap 12, Groelle got into the side of Rabas in turn 2, bringing out the caution, sending both drivers to the back of the pack.  The 12 of Rod Dart now restarted in the lead with Casavant second and Gerke back up to third.  Gerke moved to the second spot on lap 14 after Casavant started to experience handling problems but would run out of time to catch Dart after the race was checkered at half way due to time constraints.

In the Super Stock Division, the 57 of Tim Conard and the 65 of Josh Sand led the field down to the green flag.  A side-by-side battle for the lead took place until lap 3 when Sand completed the pass on the outside groove. The caution came out on lap 9 when the 57 of Conard came down on the 26 of Jo Mueller taking himself around.  Sand restarted on the point with the 31 of Greg “T-Bone” Thompson up to the second spot and the 31X of Kevin Charles in third.  Sand would again take control of the lead after a brief side-by-side battle with Thompson.  On lap 11 the caution came out again when the 57 of Conard spun in turn 4 untouched.  After some extracurricular activity during the caution, the 57 was black flagged from the event.  With 14 laps to go, Sand once again led the field down to the green with the 123 car of Henrickson up to second.  Kevin Charles in the 31X soon took the second spot away from Henrickson but the caution flag flew once again on lap 13 when the 32 of Don Wood made contact with Henrickson collecting the 4 of Jimbo Schleis and the 22 of Randy Netting on the backstretch.  On the restart with 12 laps to go, Sand again jumped out to the lead with the 31X a close second.  The 10 car of Crystal Koenig soon made her way up to the third spot on lap 17 and continued to advance to the second position on lap 20 making a move on the 31X in turn 4 after Charles got loose.  A three car battle for the second spot highlighted the last four laps between Koenig, the 32 of Wood, and the 27 of Travis Rodewald allowing Sand to pull away to take the checkered flag.  Koenig, Wood, Rodewald, and Thompson rounded out the top five.

In the Mini Stock main event, the 07 of Cory Kemkes led the field down to the green with the 86 of Kevin Peroutka on the outside pole.  Peroutka jumped out to an early lead but the field was quickly slowed for a caution involving the 13 of Jason Novak, which led to a top of the order restart since a full lap was not completed.   Once back to green flag racing, Peroutka once again jumped out to the top spot.  After only one lap, the caution came out again when the 97 of Kurt Naidl pushed up into the Novak, also collecting the number 1 of Todd Hebel.  Peroutka led the field to the restart with the 40 of John Senkbeil up to second.  One lap after the restart, the 8 car of Bryan Wetenkamp over took Senkbeil for the second spot and set out to catch Peroutka.  The yellow flag once again flew on lap 5 when the number 3 of Jake Vosters spun off the backstretch.  Right after the restart, the number 7 of Troy Selner, who broke the track record in qualifying, made a move into the third spot over taking the 29T car of Erik Turner.  Selner continued to advance by moving into the second spot after a 3 lap side-by-side battle with Wetenkamp on lap 10.  Two laps later on lap 12 the caution came out again on lap 12 when Wetenkamp spun of the backstretch giving up the third spot.  With a restart with 13 laps to go, Selner began to put the heat on Peroutka to over take the lead.  Selner soon pulled along side Peroutka and completed the pass on lap 15 to take the top spot.  The red flag came out on the next lap when the 29T of Turner, who followed Selner up to the second position, lost a wheel in turn 4.  On the restart, the 01 of Paul Ray made a strong move to go from third to side by side for the lead but Selner held off the challenge to get his first feature win of the year.  Allen Dillion would beat Ray by inches at the line to take second and Dave Gauger Jr. and Jason Novak rounded out the top five. The Hobby Stocks main event had to also be cut sort due to curfew.  On lap 13 the 7 car of Jason Rabas made the pass on the 81 of Jesse Behnke to over take the lead.  Rabas led the next 5 laps until the caution and checkered flag flew at lap 17 when the 35 of Brian Rathe took around the 5T on the front straightway.

Finally the Sport 4 gave a good showing in their feature race with a couple of lead changes in the event.  The 8 car of Brad LeClair led the first 3 laps but was soon overtaken by the 55 of Kendra Cretton.  She would pull to a sizable lead until the 74 of Hank Horn Sr. got through traffic and started chasing her down.  Horn finally caught Cretton on lap 17 and made the pass to take the lead on lap 19, which he held all the way to the checkered.  Cretton came home second with Mike Dolphin, Brad LeClair, and Aaron Dalton rounding out the top five.
