Shambeau, Schleis Win Nationals At 141 Speedway

The Smitty's Street Stock Supernationals took place at 141 Speedway in Francis
Creek on Saturday night and the biggest winners of the night were the fans who
witnessed some of the best racing of the season.
The fans were treated to a double feature in the Super Stock division; one on
Goodyear tires and another on the faster Hoosier tire.
In the Hoosier event it was Jay Shambeau of Norway, MI. leading wire to wire
to take the victory. Tim Conard of Manitowoc worked his way through heavy
traffic to a second place finish just ahead of a hard charging Jimbo Schleis,
Bruce Hendrickson and 2004 season champ Don Wood of Maribel.
The second feature had Mark Christiansen lead the first lap only to be over
taken by Bruce Hendrickson on lap two.
Hendrickson ran unopposed until lap 18 when Jimbo Schleis moved his car to
second and began battling Hendrickson for the top spot.
The battle continued until lap twenty nine, the second last lap of the race
when Hendrickson powered to the lead at the start/finish line and appeared to
be poised for the win. Suddenly, Hendrickson steered his car to the infield
and a trail of smoke signaled the end of his race allowing Schleis to go by
and take the win.
Errol Berry of Francis Creek took second just ahead of Josh Sand, Greg
Thompson and Crystal Koenig.
After a rough start featuring two lap one cautions, the Sport Four division
put on a green to checker fifty lap show with six lead changes and no
cautions.
Gary Novitski led the initial laps but was struck by the car of Bryan Monday
and spun out. Monday was disqualified and Jason Meulemans assumed the lead.
Meulemans would never be challenged winning by one-half a lap over Todd Hebel.
Kendra Creton, Mike Graziano and Mike Dolphin rounded out the top five.
A special Hobby Stock feature was added to the show with Travis Reigel of Iron
Mt., MI. coming from last to first to snag the victory over Jason Meulemans
doing double duty.
The next event at 141 Speedway will be October 30 with the Tisler Salvage 300
lap Compact Car Enduro Race featuring a "Steel Wall Crash" and a
"Trailer Race". Gates open at noon with racing at 2pm.
