Eilan Wins Mid-Am Feature At 141

Jonathan Eilan of Hampton, MN. drove his 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo to his first series win in the Yellow Book Mid-American points series race Saturday night at 141 Speedway surprising just about everyone including himself.

“I’d never even seen this track before coming here today.” Eilan said after the race. “It’s a very difficult little track to get to know but we came out on top in the end.”

Eilan started up front and never faced a serious challenge during the sixty-lap affair although second-place finisher Peter “Speedy” Hernandez was coming hard at the end. Hernandez started near the rear of the field and had worked his way to second but just didn’t have enough to catch Eilan.  Bill Prietzel of Franklin,WI finished third just ahead of Bob Hacker of Loves Park, IL and local favorite Greg Herrmann of Branch, WI.

The Yellow Book Mid-American cars will return to 141 Speedway on June 26 for another points battle; this time a 100 lap feature event will cap the evening.

In the Super Stock division, rookie Greg “T-Bone” Thompson cruised to his first-ever feature win besting the field in what could only be described as a yellow flag surrounded by race cars.

On lap one, Kevin Charles of Green Bay lost the handle on his ride sliding over the top of turn four and getting into a large puddle of water that had accumulated there pushing it onto the racing surface bringing out the first of eight yellow flags in a twenty-five lap affair.

After the water was removed and the race resumed Paul Rabas of Maribel made a strong inside move and took the lead away from Greg Marks on the front stretch. This didn’t last long though as shortly thereafter Marks collided with Denny Crass causing a spin in turn four that left Crass sideways in front of a charging field of cars.  Miraculously, all of them were able to steer around Crass’s disabled vehicle and all of them were able to make the restart.

Rabas continued to lead the race until lap nine when Thompson used a bold outside pass in turn one to take the lead and run away from the pack winning by almost half a lap.  Errol Berry finished second just ahead of point leader Randy Van Roy, rookie Mark Christiansen and Rabas.

Jason Sand of Two Rivers got his first win of the season in the Mini stock feature event besting Kevin Peroutka of Mishicot who came hard near the end of the race but had to settle for second. Randy Nething, Jason Rhia and Troy Selner rounded out the top five.

Jesse Behnke of Brillion picked up his first ever win nipping track champion Jason Rabas at the finish line in the Hobby Stock feature. Former IMCA racer John Mahlberg had his best finish to date coming in third just ahead of Kyle Kudick and Peter Kumbalek.

The Sport 4 feature was won by Craig Koehler who finished one half car length ahead of current point leader Mike “Fatbottom” Dolphin who came from the back of the field to finish second..

Next week Prestige Auto Sales of Appleton presents the regular Saturday night program of  Mid-Americans, Supers, Mini’s, Hobby Stocks and Sport 4’s at 141.   Time trials start at 5:30pm with racing at 7pm. For more information see our website at www.141Speedway.com
