Meulemans Wins Again at 141

Jeff Meulemans of Kaukauna continued his mastery at 141 Speedway Saturday with another win in the April Fools’ Enduro race.
 
Meulemans knew the competition might be gunning for him and elected to start at the rear of the eighty-nine car field making this win his most impressive yet.
 
Some early race incidents left doubts as to whether anyone would finish this race. On lap ten Larry Belonger, Gregg Duerr and Ben Case collided in turn two. With the track completely blocked the field came to a halt causing even more contact. In all over twenty cars were involved with about half of them having to pit to make repairs. Case’s car was damaged beyond repair ending his day prematurely.
 
Twenty five laps later the scariest incident of the day took place when Michael Bastien hit the frontstretch wall collecting Mike Kubichek and Lee Kielpikowski. The impact lifted Kielpikowski’s car off the ground landing on the hood of Bastien. Although it was a frightening sight, no one was injured and all three were able to continue.
 
While all of this was going on, Jim Brooks of Fredonia took a commanding lead for over one hundred and fifty laps dueling occasionally with Jesse Klien who would later have two tires go down forcing him to pit and fall out of the lead lap.
 
Brooks had his way until lap one fifty nine when Meulemans was able to work his way to the front and overtake him for the lead. Brooks would not let go easily and, in fact, swapped the lead three times with Meulemans.
 
In the end Meuelemans had just enough to win the three hundred lap affair by one and a half car lengths; the closest finish ever in an Enduro race at 141 Speedway.  Brooks took second one lap ahead of Kurt Naidl. 
 
Jesse Klein who had experienced tire trouble charged from 16th to finish fourth and Terry Kust was fifth.
 
Next Saturday, April 10 is the first open practice session of the year at 141 Speedway. Gates open at 2PM and practice runs until dusk. Rain date is Sunday, April 11. There will be a second session on the following Saturday with Sunday once again the rain date.
