"Pee Wee" Takes The Win At 141
Beautiful weather and a capacity crowd combined to provide for a great night
of racing at 141 Speedway Saturday night.
The Mid-American Sportsman feature started with a bang literally when half of
the field was involved in a front stretch crash on the first lap.
It all began in turn three when Jeff Tisler began to lose the handle on his
Pontiac and attempted to save it by oversteering the car through turn four.
Unfortunately this only caused the group of cars behind him to check up and
collide in one large, ugly bunch at the exit of the turn.
The worst of the damage was to the cars of Todd Mott and Gary Benion. Benion's
car landed on top of the front end of Mott's ride and needed to be lifted off
with the track wrecker. Both cars were done for the evening. Greh Herrmann,
Ben Kroll and Travis Groelle were also collected in the wreck but were able to
repair and continue.
After the meley, Pee Wee Dart of Luxumberg grabbed the lead on the restart and
held off a charging Gregg Haase and Joe Kerkhoff to take his first feature of
the season. Ben Kroll of Green Bay and Greg Herrmann of Branch rounded out the
top five.
The Super Stock feature race was a shinning moment for Denny Crass of Maribel.
Recently returned from a self-imposed exile, Crass led the event from start to
finish surviving a challenge from Josh Sand and Randy Van Roy who finsihed
second and third.
In other news from the Supers, point leader Andy Cassavant blew up his second
motor in as many weeks on the final lap of the event putting his lead and
future racing endevours in jeporady. ‘We’re going to try and finish the
season” Cassavant said after the event. “I’ll be talking to some people
I know to see if we can rent a motor for the rest of the year. Other than that
the whole thing is up in the air right now.” Cassavant currently holds a
substancial lead in the division but that could change quickly if he is unable
to continue.
The Mini Stocks ran a nearly flawless race with Tom Melichar of Mishicot
taking the win and a bonus of $100 courtesy of his sponsor, Century 21 Realty.
Troy Selner was second followed by Paul Ray, Mike Oswald and Scott Bauer.
Point leader Mark Christiansen was snake-bitten for the second week in a row.
Last week his motor expired near the end of the feature. This week an oil leak
caused a smoking problem that brought out a black flag and brought an early
end to his night.
Jason Meulemans won the Sport 4 class in a race that was punctuated with four
caution flags for crashes. Jeff Meulemans, Jason’s dad took second and Todd
Welsing was third.
The Hobby Stock division held the first annual Dave Robinson Memorial 50 Lap
race on this night. Mike Wilde led the initial thirteen laps with a pack of
five cars within a car length until Jerry Brice and Matt Reinke got together
in turn one and the caution came out.
When the race resumed the same group of cars were up front with Wilde leading.
This continued until lap twenty-three, when Jason Kostichka’s car lost a
wheel and came to a stop in turn three bringing out the red flag and stopping
the race altogether.
On the restart Kyle Kudick used a nifty inside power move to take the lead and
Travis Rodewald followed to second. Although “Roadie” tried to make a race
of it he was no match for Kudick’s Ford as he picked up his second feature
of the year.
Next week Forest Construction presents the regular race program along with the
special guest class, the Wisconsin Sport Trucks from WIR. Time trials at
5:30pm with racing at 7. For more information see their website at www.141Speedway.com.
