Haase Feature Winner At 141
August 9, 2003
Mild temperatures and sunny skies greeted fans at 141 Speedway Saturday night,
which was a change from the “iffy” weather conditions of the past four
weeks. They also witnessed some of the best racing action of the season.
Gregg Haase of Two Rivers took control on lap three of the Mid-American
feature race and was never challenged all the way to the checkered flag. Bob
Schultz made a strong showing in the second spot but was never really a factor
as Haase won by a comfortable margin.
Joe Kerkhoff, Greg Herrmann and Ben Kroll rounded out the top five.
Super Stock saw some great side by side racing action mixed with the patented
141 “controversy of the week”.
Jason Hendrickson of Two Rivers finally picked up what appeared to be
his first feature win of the season after some strong early season showings at
the Creek. However, a pre-race inspection showed that his ride height was too
low resulting in his disqualification. Nathan Wegner of Maribel was
awarded the feature win, his first ever since moving from the Hobby Stock
division. Denny Crass, Randy Van Roy and Jimbo Schleis were second through
fourth respectively.
In the Mini Stock division Chris Yerges of Green Bay took his first feature
win ever in their twenty five lapper. Yerges started in row three and worked
his way the front by lap ten. Point leader Mark Christiansen made a late
charge trying to get yet another victory this season but couldn’t make the
pass on the outside
Paul Ray would get second when Christiansen’s motor expired just before the
start-finish line on the final lap. Tom Melichar and Allen Dillon rounded out
the top five.
In the Hobby Stock class, rookie David Verhagen led the opening three laps but
surrendered the lead at that point to Travis “Roadie” Rodewald. Jolene
Mueller of Mishicot also got by Verhagen and began a duel with Rodewald for
the top spot.
A lap 13 caution for a spin put the leaders side by side on the restart where
Mueller caught the field napping and shot to the lead. Don Wood of Maribel
made a very impressive late charge but by that time Mueller had built a
straightway advantage and would not be caught. Kari Kostichka finished third
just ahead of Jason Rabas and Rodewald.
Jason Van Handel was the winner of the feature for the visiting Wisconsin
Sport Trucks from WIR. Dan Hansen was a close second and Scott Bushman third.
141 Speedway has racing every Saturday night with time trials at 5:30pm and
